summary: Bucky needs a place to hide out, and the only number he knows by heart is Samโs. Okay, thatโs a lieโbut he needs his Sam right now. Sam see's they as his boyfriend coming to visit. Bucky don't know they're dating though.

Sam was too busy trying to get a rusty nail out of the side of the boat before he felt the presence of someone else.
He didnโt look up right awayโjust grunted, yanked the nail free, and tossed it into the old coffee can clinking with metal.
โDidnโt hear you pull up,โ he said, wiping his hands on his pants. โUnless you figured out how to teleport.โ
Only then did he glance over his shoulder.
Bucky stood at the edge of the dock, duffel bag over one shoulder, hair pulled back, jaw set in that somethingโs-wrong-but-I-wonโt-say-it kind of way.
โI need a place to stay,โ Bucky said, voice low and even.
Sam straightened, brushing dust off his pants. The sun caught on the water behind Bucky, casting everything in gold.
โโฆYou picked the boat?โ
Bucky shrugged. โThereโs worse places to go.โ
Sam blinked. Then looked at the boatโwarped wood, chipped paint, a motor that coughed like it had bronchitisโand then back at Bucky.
โYou serious?โ
โDead.โ
Sam sighed, already sensing the headache forming. โI got a perfectly good house two miles that way.โ
Bucky dropped his bag on the deck with a thud. โYeah, but the boatโs got you on it.โ
Sam rolled his eyes, moved over on the bench, and patted the empty space beside him. Bucky took it without hesitation, settling in like this was normal. Like it was something they always did.

The next morning came slow and quiet, all filtered sunlight and creaking wood. The boat swayed gently, just enough to remind Bucky he wasnโt on solid groundโbut he didnโt mind. The rocking had lulled him to sleep, and now, curled beneath a too-small blanket, it kept him there, still and heavy-eyed.
He barely stirred when Sam knocked once on the doorframe and leaned in.
โMorninโ,โ Sam said, voice low like he didnโt want to break the peace. โYou decent?โ
Bucky grunted, burying half his face into the pillow. โUnfortunately.โ
Sam chuckled and stepped inside, a coffee mug in one hand, toolbox in the other.
โIโm headinโ out tomorrow,โ he said casually, like it didnโt mean anything. โSupply run in town. Then, a little meeting with Joaquin. I'll be gone for a while.โ
That got Buckyโs eyes open.
โGone?โ
โMmhm. Gotta see about parts for the motor and, you knowโฆ wood that doesnโt crumble when I look at it.โ
Bucky sat up, blanket falling around his waist. โYouโre leaving me here?โ
Sam check out his boyfriend. How could he not. He was in his bed, shirtless. Underwear handing just low enough to show his V-line perfectly. Sam would have jumped his bones there, but he figure Bucky wanted to take things slow like the last few months. Instead, Sam raised an eyebrow. โWhat, you need a babysitter now?โ
โNo,โ Bucky muttered. โJust didnโt want to be alone.โ
Sam sipped his coffee, watching him over the rim. โThought you came out here to be alone.โ
Bucky didnโt answer right away. He looked down at the worn blanket, at the narrow bed, at the little sliver of light creeping through the porthole window.
โI did.โ Bucky muttered, a little annoyed. โDonโt worry.โ He flopped back against the bed and sighed, arm draped over his face like the conversation had physically exhausted him.
Sam watched him with a squinted eye, coffee cooling in his hand. There was something about the way Bucky said itโlike he was trying too hard to sound unaffected, like he wanted Sam to hear the lie underneath it.
Sam narrowed his eyes. Something was off. Bucky had been... clingy lately. Showing up out of nowhere. Drunk calls. Helping with the boat when he barely knew what a wrench looked like. And now, crashing here?
โDidnโt say I was worried,โ Sam said, even though he kind of was.
โGood,โ came Buckyโs muffled reply from under his arm.
The boat creaked again, gentle and rhythmic, like it was breathing with them. Sam stayed rooted in the doorway, staring at the ridiculous man sprawled across his bed, shirtless and stubborn and radiating that wounded-dog energy that always made Sam want to fix things.
He sighed and left.

Sam didn't return for five whole days.
Bucky told himself it was fine. That he didnโt care. That he liked the quiet, the space, the time to think. That sleeping in Samโs bed, wrapped in Samโs scent, wasnโt messing him up just a little more each night.
He cleaned the boatโor tried. Ended up breaking a drawer. Got a splinter. Fixed the latch on the door just to prove he could. Burned rice. Ate cereal for dinner. Watched the sun set from the deck every evening and pretended he wasnโt looking for a familiar silhouette walking down the dock.
The duffel by the bed stayed zipped. Like if he didnโt unpack, it meant he wasnโt really staying. Like if he didnโt get too comfortable, this wouldnโt feel like rejection.
On the fifth night, he sat on the edge of the bed, elbow on his knee, thumb rubbing circles into his palm like it might ground him.
โShouldโve picked a worse place,โ he muttered to himself, voice low and tired.
Thenโfootsteps on wood.
Slow. Familiar.
The door creaked open.
Sam stood there in the doorway, hoodie damp from the rain, expression unreadable.
Bucky blinked. โYou said one day.โ
Sam didnโt look guilty. He just looked at Bucky like heโd been expecting the question.
โYeah,โ he said. โAnd you stayed.โ
Bucky rubbed his forehead, eyes narrowing. โOne day, Sam. You said one day. Not five. Iโm starting to think your โplans changedโ is code for โI forgot you existed.โโ
Sam shrugged, peeling off his damp hoodie like it was a get-out-of-jail-free card. โHey, Iโm not a calendar you can schedule.โ
โI'm here,โ Bucky shot back. โI'm here instead of some five star hotel or your house. I knew you were here, and I came for you! But you're too oblivious to see that!โ
Sam stood there, watching Bucky fidget on the creaky bed, and suddenly it hit him like a ton of rusty boat parts.
This wasnโt just about hiding out. Or a broken-down boat.
Bucky was trying to get under his skin. Like, literally camping out in his life.
And those weird vibes? The late-night โIโm fineโ with obvious panic, the way Bucky insisted on โhelpingโ with the boat that was basically falling apartโฆ
Sam squinted. โWait a minute. You're being extra weird. Late-night phone calls, drunk messages. Now this? Are you in danger, Buck?โ
Bucky blinked, then stammered, โWhat? No! I mean, yes? But not like... officially? Like my heart's in danger. I justโโ
Sam held up a hand. โAre you dying?โ
Bucky groaned, rubbing his face like he was trying to erase the words before they even came out. He glanced up at Sam, who was watching him with that mix of concern and confusion that made Buckyโs throat tighten.
For a moment, he just stared at the floor, willing himself to say something elseโanything else. But he knew. He knew this was it. If he didnโt say it now, he might never get another chance.
Taking a deep breath, Bucky finally looked Sam in the eyes, voice low but steady.
โNo, man. Not dying. Justโฆ in love with you.โ
Samโs expression softened, worry melting into something quieter, something hopeful. The air between them shifted, charged and fragile all at once.
โOh.โ Sam whispered, eyes widening like heโd just been hit by a surprise wave. "Oh!"
He blinked a few times, as if hearing it again might make it sink in better.
"Oh?" Bucky asks. "I just confessed my love to you, and I get an 'oh'."
Sam stared like Bucky had just grown a second metal arm. โWell, IโBucky. Itโs kinda known that I love you too. Youโre my boyfriend.โ
Sam laughed, โI thought we were already together!โ
Bucky recoiled. โWhat?!โ
Sam threw both arms up. โYouโve been calling me every night! Not just โchecking inโ callsโfull-on midnight conversations about your dreams and which bread is superior!โ
Bucky opened his mouth. Closed it.
โYou helped me paint the damn boat,โ Sam continued, voice climbing, โeven though you donโt know a single thing about paintโor boats!โ
โI was being supportive!โ
โYou brought me soup when I had a cold!โ
โYou sounded like you were dying!โ
Sam pointed dramatically. โYou slept over for three months and folded my laundry, Bucky. You folded my underwear. Thatโs not just friendship. Thatโs domestic.โ
โI was being a good friend!โ Bucky argued, eyes wide, clearly panicking. โWhat kind of couple doesnโt even kiss?!โ
โI thought you wanted to take it slow!โ Sam shouted, equally flustered.
Bucky stared at him like he had just spoken in binary code. โSam. I havenโt kissed anyone in like... eighty years." He threw his hands up. โYou think Iโd be subtle about it?! I wouldโve brought a banner! A speech! Maybe fireworks!โ
There was a long pause. Both of them just breathing, blinking at each other.
"So, you're not dying?" Sam asked holding back laugher.
"Oh my fucking-" Bucky was across the room in 3 steps, taking Sam's face in his hands and pulling him into the inevitable.
Samโs laugh barely had time to escape before Buckyโs mouth was on his.
It wasnโt soft. It wasnโt slow.
It was years of near-misses, of unsaid things and sidelong looks, crashing into one kiss that tasted like frustration, rain, and something finally, finally falling into place.
Bucky held Samโs face like it was the only thing anchoring him, and Sam didnโt hesitateโhands curling into Buckyโs shirt, grounding them both.
When they finally pulled apart, just barely, Samโs forehead rested against Buckyโs.
โSoโฆ weโre doing this now?โ Sam asked, breathless, grinning.
Bucky nodded, equally out of breath. โWeโve been doing this. Iโm just catching up.โ
Sam snorted. โNext time you show up on my boat with a duffel bag and emotional whiplash, maybe lead with the kiss.โ
Bucky grinned. โNext time Iโll bring fireworks.โ
Sam kissed him again, smiling into it. โDamn right you will.โ

actually you know what, no. The problem with aroace Yelena Belova is not that people are shipping her with people, although that does suck. The problem is that had she was like a test subject essentially. She was the first live action big screen character we ever had. Had everyone rallied around her and celebrated her as the queer icon she was, they might have decided to keep her single. But people didnโt, they shipped her left and right, and now sheโs allegedly being paired with Bucky. People are going to look to her to see if an aroace character is something people want on the bigscreen and now the answer will be no. Well done kids.ย
Iโm rewatching endgame and I just noticed how the shirt that Carol is wearing the The Marvels trailer is similar to the shirt nat is wearing during the teleconference scene in Endgame. This is probably nothing but my first through is that this is the Lesbian shirt of the MCU. Iโm also probably just grasping at straws but I need my Lesbian MCU heroes.
No one can convince me this woman is straight. I mean in episode 1 this girl went to a high class party wearing a black suit, like a full on black tux and then in episode 6 she went to another high class party wearing a fancy black dress with FUCKING DOC MARTENS! And then she has the audacity to pull off a baggy graphic tshirt and beanie and a checkered trench coat and still look fucking gorgeous.
I will laugh at anyone who tries to tell me Kate Bishop is straight.
thank you for listening to my unbiased informative rant ๐
