My identity as an ecosexual is probably the one that confuses people, especially other queer people the most. I want to talk about it along with some theories from queer ecologies.
First off, what tf is queer ecologies? Queer ecologies is a field of queer theory that exists at the intersection of environmental rights and queer rights. It includes theories about: How environmental degradation and the dismantling of queer spaces has gone hand in hand; How controversial discourse about environmental waste is, and how that extends to the people we consider disposable; How much of the "natural world" is actually a lot queerer than the dominant narrative portrays. A lot of things can fall under the umbrella of queer ecologies! The most recent paper I wrote was specifically about trans ecologies, which is like an emerging subsection of queer ecologies (with a lot of overlap)
So what is an ecosexual then? Ecosexuality is a political identity in a lot of ways, but doesn't always manifest purely as that. For me, ecosexuality is about finding my environment sexy. Anything from like... jerking off with a water stream, acknowledging the air we breathe heavy during sex, loving the feeling of mud or sand on our bare feet, skinny dipping, sex in "nature," "skygasms ," etc. If you've ever looked at like a cool patch of moss and gone "wow that's hot" then you probably understand. I could go on and on! All of this is related to ecosexuality for me. Another big aspect of it is shifting the narrative from "earth as Mother" to "earth as Lover." It's a deep acknowledgement that we are a part of our environment, and when we interact with it, when we desire it, when we love it, it does all of those things back to us.
