€100M Nova Investments For Quantum Growth To Next-Gen AI
Novo Holdings wants to join healthcare and develop globally after reaching €100 million quantum investment.
Nova investments
Novo Holdings, the Novo Nordisk Foundation's investment firm, released its 2025 Quantum Investments Annual Review. The report highlights that the company's specialised quantum investment portfolio has grown swiftly to €100 million, showing its commitment to quantum technologies.
Long-term commitment, rapid portfolio growth
It says Novo Holdings' €100 million ($145.5 million USD) portfolio outcome is a notable first-year achievement after its quantum team was launched in 2024. This early success precedes the company's DKK 1.4 billion (€188 million, or $217.1 million USD) long-term quantum technology development investment.
Novo Holdings wants to accelerate the construction of a competitive European quantum ecosystem. Jeroen Bakker, Partner, Novo Holdings Quantum Investments, praised the team's fast start in its first year, generating a balanced portfolio and building key contacts.
Dual Strategy: Health and Green Transition
The investment approach has two goals. The strategy's first pillar is direct investments in green transformation and healthcare applications. This strategy supports the Novo Nordisk Foundation's mission of developing quantum technologies to address global health challenges.
Fund investments strengthen Novo Holdings' global quantum stack exposure in the strategy's second prong. Denmark is the initiative's cornerstone, but the fund's outlook is global.
Quantum stack diversification
Software, hardware, and specialised venture capital are among the quantum industry's vast portfolio.
Novo Holdings has invested directly in creative companies like:
Danish company Sparrow Quantum makes deterministic photonic chips.
Phasecraft, situated in the UK, develops quantum algorithms for materials science, energy, and biology. Novo Holdings has invested heavily in quantum technologies, AI, and biology. To provide global exposure to a variety of quantum technologies, Novo Holdings has made large fund investments:
Novo Holdings invests heavily in this 55 North Danish quantum venture fund.
Quantonation II (France): A quantum venture capital fund provides exposure.
Playground Global IV (US): This commitment investments in a US deep-tech fund.
Stepping into the Megaquop Era
Novo Holdings says quantum computing is emerging from the limited NISQ stage. According to the strategic endeavour, quantum is entering the “megaquop” period, characterised by increasingly advanced systems with logical qubits and error correction.
Novo Holdings has growth targets. In addition to fund holdings, the institution seeks to consolidate eight to ten direct interests. By 2030, this major extension should be complete.
Novo Holdings is the Novo Nordisk Foundation's primary investment manager. The Quantum Investments Annual Review 2025 reinforces the company's dedication to deep-tech research and next-generation technology.
