Welp. My favorite son, Q, has officially been translated over from Undertale to DBH *sweats* Gave his ‘human‘ design a full revamp while I was at it since I was super dissatisfied with how I’ve drawn him in the past and it occurred to me today that he absolutely needs a mustache that he can twirl when he’s feeling smug. So here we are. More about him under the cut!

Yay we did it! Our first time travelling abroad together! I was very apprehensive about it and at one point (the morning of departure) I wanted to cancel...yes the self doubt was evidently there.

It really was a last minute trip and I didn’t know what to expect. The first drama was my inability to pack light...it’s a work in progress which is gradually getting better. I actually had 4kg left after packing our suitcase! Now to work on the organisation part of it...

The second drama was the fact that Elijah is so mobile and reluctant to stay in one place for long. How would I cope on my own trying to get through security and making sure he wasn’t trying to run in any direction? I didn’t even want to think about the plane ride!

Travelling with a baby I thought was difficult, but now I think it’s a slight more complex with a toddler.  I needed to think about snacks, entertainment and timings. Admittedly since having to rush for classes etc. etc. has made me prompt as hell (as well as the fact that this boy is up by 5.30am).

So we got to the airport on time but the queue to get through security was a joke...the flight was with Ryanair, not I’m not a snob, but I’m not used to the budget airlines.  Before booking the flight I was desperately looking to see if there were any alternative airlines...which there weren't, so I was stuck with Ryanair.  The queues were long but what made it worse for me was the security checks on Elijah and myself. This coupled with the fact that his water bottle was checked and the guy who checked it out told me that the first machine showed up a reading for explosives so he decided to check on another machine. I personally think they need to change their machines in that case…explosives you know – and to think he was really casual about it! The last thing I needed after Elijah being searched was me being suspected of carrying explosives and missing my flight!

 By the time we got through security I had to run to the gate pushing Elijah in his new pushchair which he found amusing....glad one of us did! We finally made it to the queue and I had to quickly grab him out of his pushchair and walk down steps, this I was not expecting but luckily I wasn’t using the Bugaboo...that would have been a total nightmare.

Finally on board the plane we took our seats and took off quickly after. The flight was ok, though I was hungry because I hadn’t had time to buy food and the thought of buying Ryanair food didn’t appeal to me. I was ok without eating for the short flight and elijah had food packed, so that was one less thing to worry about.

Upon landing, going through immigration at Jerez airport was tedious. I was one of the last in the queue because I had to wait for the pushchair. Once Elijah was in he was content and as usual babbling to himself and everyone he saw. The sun felt great and I was happy that I had come even though I had wanted to cancel hours earlier.

We took a cab to Cadiz and the taxi driver didn’t speak a word of English, but we managed to agree that I would pay by card. On the journey to the hotel I usually take in the sights, but I had to hold Elijah and he wasn’t in the mood to watch the scenery as I was!

Luckily for me by the time we arrived at the hotel my friend was ready and waiting for us. She spoke to the cab driver and paid our fare. We had arrived finally!!

The rest of the holiday was a breeze, Elijah for the most part was entertained, behaved really well and as usual made lots of friends along the way.

Would I go back to Cadiz? Maybe, it wasn’t a bad place but I wouldn’t feel confident because my Spanish is rubbish, but on the flip side it was a great place to relax, mingle with the locals and experience Spanish culture.

 All in all, this long weekend has taught me a few things:

I should have had more faith in myself. Travelling alone was never going to be easy and I should not have thought that I wouldn’t be able to do it at all.

To take things easy. I was concerned that Elijah’s schedule was messed up, but kids adapt. Also, Spanish kids tend to go to bed way later and you know what? They don’t suffer! It was actually nice waking up late with him!
