Am I the only one that thought Kyle’s mom was kind of tone deaf in her conversation with Pilar? It comes from a very well meaning place, but also a white woman privileged place. Not everyone gets to have parents with unconditional love and so telling Pilar to hold onto her parents love when they turned it away from her really hurt as someone who has been in a similar situation. Pilar realizing that she deserved love and respect - even if it didn’t come from her family, was the real highlight for me. Some people’s parents don’t change and sadly being told to wait for something that isn’t going to happen, idk, it hurts.
