Hey, i hope you don’t mind me asking - how did you start a zine?
Hi friend! I have no idea how long ago this was sent so, apologies!
I started Sirens Zine when I was in 11th grade with very little hard skills/resources. I just liked art! The first issue is made on apple’s Pages (DO NOT recommend dear god). I got access to Adobe inDesign, which I’ve been using ever since (free trial bay beeee).
Sirens Zine is a submissions based zine which means I ask people to submit their work to the zine rather than creating all the art myself.
Sirens Zine is published on issuu.com and there are no printed copies. Because Sirens is completely free from $$, I don’t have printing costs. As much as I would like to compensate artists, I don’t want to have to sell copies to generate revenue. All artists are donating their work so there is no $$ involved.
Starting a zine is pretty easy! Different types of zines require different things so this is just a brief response about our process. If you have further questions/want to chat, email [email protected]

Hi friends! This is an informal call for submissions for the next issue of Sirens Zine. We likely won’t be advertising until late Nov/Dec but if you’re seeing this post, you’re welcome to submit now! As always, QTBIPOC artists/writers/creatives only! (You must identify as a person of color AND LGBTQ+ to submit! Bc people keep asking, white passing/mixed race people are welcome!!)
