favorite thing about them: i love that she simultaneously believes in kira's ideals more genuinely than anyone else in team kira (mikami is projecting his own beliefs, light is ocd spiraling, misa is misa) and Also is the most reluctant to actually kill. i keep saying the latter thing and i keep not giving evidence so here is my evidence

it's not just momentary shock either! she's dead silent for the rest of the conversation until light prompts her directly for the sake of the task force listening in!

anyway this is my favorite thing about her less because i believe she has more of a moral backbone and more because i think it's so darkly funny. leopard who joined the leopards eating people's faces off party: i never thought i would have to eat people's faces off!! in some ways i think this is the most realistic reaction anyone in death note has to the death note like yeah of course nobody actually wants their hands stained with blood in the end of course you want your pure refined kindhearted world and don't want to look at the victims of its violence except that you yourself are the face of the violence and there are bodyguards gunning people down in the streets in your name. kiyomi takada, saint. they'll canonize you and they'll spit on your gravestone.

i think in some ways misa clocks this about her immediately. we meme on that panel where misa's like The Death Penalty :D but in context misa (who knows the task force is investigating kiyomi) is saying that since kiyomi is kira's voice, she's just as bad as kira is and will get executed just as kira will once they're caught. and this is what gets kiyomi (who is already acting as kira at this point) to leave the conversation because she cannot be confronted with her own guilt.

anyway do you see why i think she is exactly like first arc light yagami hahahahahahhaaaa

brOTP: kiyomi and mikami are SO fun together i like them so much. i like to think kiyomi asked him out on a date and he just did not catch onto the subtext there at all and they spent the whole time talking about politics and kiyomi was like wow i enjoyed that so much more than any actual date i've had with a man, surely this means nothing. i also think mikami wrote her name without a shred of remorse :D

OTP: ive been trapped in kiyomisa hell for almost a year now. i may never get out. they've got mindgames they've got hatemance they've got two people trying to perform gender and failing miserably in vastly different ways they've got identity issues of the "i am your more successful copy and yet i am starting to suspect he hates us both" variety. they deserve to kill each other homoerotically.

i also enjoy that light almost clocks it but due to his sexism he concludes that All Women Are Like This when in fact he just has a track record of dating lesbians. i wonder what this says about your gender light yagami

nOTP: this one is also kiyomi and mikami i have actually read several fics about them but i just can't see it romantically alas… they're more interesting when they're friends to me

random headcanon: she's an only child and her parents are traditionalists who wish she'd been a boy and yet objected very strongly to her tomboy phase. naturally this did not affect her personality at all

unpopular opinion: i don't think there are enough opinions about kiyomi to determine what counts as an Unpopular one. damn. i will keep writing meta instead. it is my opinion that she has zero friends and this is why light is able to manipulate her so effectively. near talks about looking through "takada's friends and associates" to find x-kira and then notices mikami and says "never mind i know who it is" which suggests to me that she has like a hundred acquaintances but doesn't actually spend time with any of them. she looks so surprised when light suggests booking a hotel room so they can get some privacy because presumably she has not had cause to actually talk to anybody one-on-one since she got famous. she's like the literal perfect target for emotional manipulation it's kind of impressive and extremely sad

Oh EASY, I straight-up just want Nu to be my shinigami:

I'm SO curious how she might write names in the notebook and how she manages to move around as well, since she kinda just looks like a giant awkward rock. She's apparently one of the most powerful of all the shinigami, too, so I wouldn't mind having her on my side.

5. A scene that makes you laugh:

I remember laughing out loud at that one scene in the manga where Near figures out that Mogi isn't L simply by calling Light up and making him answer the phone, then hanging up on him again:

I feel like maybe it's a bit of a "you had to be there" thing that is a little hard to explain the funniness of outside of the context of the entire scene, but to me it's all about the tense buildup to this moment, and then Light's baffled and frustrated face, and just the fact that he no doubt answers the phone expecting yet another fabulous mind game that he has been busting his ass to prepare for months in advance, and then Near just dummies him immediately with this incredibly simple yet effective ploy. Then Near's extremely nonchalant reaction to all that, like he doesn't even fully realize or care what a massively disrespectful bitch move that was, and Matsuda just being there cluelessly sticking his nose into it all as per usual like "???"... Near has his own entirely unique way of knocking Light down a peg that I find very funny and very refreshing to watch sometimes in the successor arc, mainly because he truly doesn't give a shit about flattering Light or slyly stroking Light's ego at all the way L always used to do... poor little meow meow Light, but he's just SUCH a jaded pill by this point in the story who's been living so many lies constantly that it's always satisfying to see him actually have to break a sweat, too

I think L and Light are the smartest characters. They are on a similar level. Arguing about minimal difference is probably in vain.

23. what was your favorite moment and why?

Naomi’s death. The entire part is just based on coincidences, but it was so god damn good. The intensity of it was incredible. It was thrilling from the beginning to the end. I wanted Naomi to stay alive, but I also wanted Light to succeed. There are other exciting parts as well, but I think not a single one of them captured the same thrill I felt during this part.

Wasn’t a prankster on purpose, but nevertheless caused inadvertent trouble.

Showed Roger a spider he found on the playground once. Roger almost jumped out of his skin.

Put sugar on all the French fries in the cafeteria at Wammy’s. He thought it tasted better than putting salt on them.

Would hide his shoes around Wammy’s and tell Watari that they must have walked away. (Watari bought many pairs of shoes before L was made to leave them in his den.)

Mello

Dyed Near’s hair purple…twice.

Put a red shirt in with Near’s wash. Near’s clothes were pink for weeks.

Would rearrange Near’s robots and told him that his robots came to life at night. This didn’t scare Near, but insisted it was true for three months when he was very little.

Matt

Was the one that was willing to do bigger pranks.

Stealing Roger’s car and parking at different places around Winchester so Roger had to go looking for it.

Moving his car into the no parking zone so it gets towed…weekly.

Using his credit card to call phone sex operators. It isn’t even for the porn, he just wants to see Roger’s face when the bills comes.

Signed Roger up for all kinds of junk mail and orders every magazine subscription he can using his credit card. (I like to think that after Matt died, when one of these showed up in the mail it makes Roger smile.)

Near

Was the biggest prankster of them all. Best part, no one ever suspected him.

Even when he confessed, Roger thought he was covering for Mello, which made Mello even angrier.

There was no prank too large or too small. Everything from switching all the sugar shakers to salt to painting graffiti and dirty murals on the walls at Wammy’s was fair game.

BB

Taught Near and Mello all the cuss words he could think of. Roger almost blew a gasket the first time Near called him F***Face.

Made Matt a copy of Roger’s office keys so he could go in and move stuff around on his desk in the night. To this day, Roger has no idea how that was happening.

Told Mello & Near that if they fell asleep while watching Matt play videogames that there was a 1/16 chance they would get sucked in and never be seen again.

Tried to convince Mello and Near he was actually L. Mello believed him for about a half a second, but won’t admit it.
