doomer "none of the math I do has applications to th real world lmao" vs wonder experiencer "all the math in the world has amazing applications we haven't even found yet"
Found this gem in a short process theory paper
I was talking with one of my classmates about who we would prefer taking calc 3 with, one of which being a pure mathematician, the other being an applied mathematician focused on physics. I said I much prefer pure math, not realizing that my proof profesor, an applied mathematician, was right there. She mentioned it at the end of class jokingly, and I was trying to say âI still like applied math donât worry, I just prefer pure!â but instead the sentence that came out of my mouth âI love our little applications we do in classâ kill me now (/j)
Iâm an enjoyer of applied math. Hypothetically. The problem is half the time I do applied math theyâre like âso first weâre going to make 25 assumptionsâ and my pure math brain immediately violently recoils

Yo shout out to Futurama for being featured in the footnotes of my math textbook.
My prof even gave us watching the episode mentioned as a homework assignment which is hella cool!
Like look at this! It's so cool that they actually got people to come in and give solid ass math for a tv problem of people switching bodies!
That's badass! Like this image was only flashed during the show but yo, I fucking appreciate this shit! I also appreciate whoever added that footnotes in the textbook cause yo, that's funny as hell.
Just writing up a fucking textbook like "yo ya know, I think that one episode of this TV show actually uses this theorem. I gotta footnote this shit!"
