Anyone who used to be in the Creepyasta fandom years ago, do you remember PuppetStrings?

I used to watch a lot of her videos when I was younger, and now that I've grown up and regained my fixation for Creepypasta after so long — I decided to relive watching old content I used to consume, PuppetStrings being one of many.

I remembered thinking I was going to be learning some fun and cool facts about these characters that I adore until PuppetStrings began speaking about law enforcement and the government. Of course, little ol' me paused and went, "waitttttt they're real!?"

Then the rational part of me was like, "no, that can't be possible"

I was kind of caught in the limbo of subconsciously knowing that Creepypastas were simply characters curated by the Internet, nothing more and yet still keeping an open mind of "what if?"

Although, knowing they're not real, the current me still found a lot of enjoyment in watching her old content. Did PuppetStrings spread misinformation? Yes, she absolutely did. And that's not okay. There was content in a few of her videos that was just not appropriate.

I believe the reason why I still feel so captured by her content is because of the dedication and detail she put into these videos. There's people who make up things and lie, yes, but upon watching her videos again, it feels like it's more than just the average person spreading random misinformation. I know anyone could do it if they tried hard enough, but I don't think I've seen anything like it.

PuppetStrings would name specific locations, addresses, names that she consistently references in her videos (Officer Kelslo, for example), making up an interview with someone she claimed was a Pasta, creating new titles for Creepypastas and Proxies claiming these were their original titles (MoonShadows, Red Diamonds), specific dates, images, the Creepypasta "family mansion" traditions, even expanding on information regarding the Creepypasta "family" in the comment sections of videos with fans...And so, so much more.

I look back on it and think, well, no wonder I and so many people were so moved and convinced with her content back then. PuppetStrings had her own laid out lore regarding these characters, which was so intricately mapped put and written. It's almost..Well, kind of is impressive.

I don't intentionally want to glamourise her so much because she has done wrong in the community in the past. She's since archived her content and taken off from social media. At least, from what I'm aware of.

It's just that when I take a step back and actually separate the lore, she's fabricated, I don't think it'd be half bad to include in some type of story and whatnot. I just feel so fascinated by it and feel a lot of frustration that there's no one I can talk to about it because PuppetStrings wasn't some big phenomenon in the fandom, but big enough to have attracted some attention, and yet small enough to go off the radar and vanish from the internet without a whole lot of people noticing apart from a select few.

so in both cases within that relationship there is a general perception of scara as an object or a tool. in ei's case he was. seen as a faulty tool but the point stands. in his betrayal backstories he is very often doing physical labor. he is kept around because he is useful. and so because that is the way he has spent basically his entire life being told that is how his life is going to be, he holds the belief that the only reason anyone associates with him at all is because they want something from him.

and i think there IS room there for a nahida who helps him heal from that. i think there is room for a nahida who sees him as a friend and affirms to him that they are friends and that she does not see him as some kind of errand boy.

however.

Nahida is god. and she is an exceptionally patient and forgiving god, but she is NOT practiced at friendship. she is not familiar with being in any sort of respectful relationship with anyone. She is LITERALLY an immortal little girl who was given all of the information in the world to entertain herself for five hundred years and she was LONELY. and now she has POWER.

i want you to look me dead in the eyes and tell me that if you were an inhuman creature made of knowledge with godlike powers in the body and, to a degree, mind of a preteen girl that you would not choose to tie yourself to the only boy your age you've ever met, the only person who you believe may ever have the ability to ever understand you.

because ive said it before and ill say it again but scara is nahidas nahida. she sees him in the same way she sees herself, lonely and betrayed by people who were meant to take care of him.

so there is such a real real real possibility that there is a nahida who, against anything he could ever want, takes his heart and eats it. who connects the two of them. because the thing is that in order for this relationship to really mean anything to scara there has to be a degree of freedom involved with the safety of a place to come back to, he has to know that he CAN leave and CHOOSE not to. being tethered to nahida would make him FUCKING MISERABLE.

and nahida KNOWS that, and knows that what she is doing is creating another cage. but she can't hear it over the idea of never being alone again.
