Angst prediction / theory : When the circus member shows up, Snake still wants to be loyal to the Phantomhives but his snakes think he should be loyal to the circus so they end up poisoning him with their venom .

That would be a bit like how the snakes disobeyed him in the Akuma6 side chapter, ch107.5, except that they are trying to make him choose something instead of just going after what they want. Idk why they would choose to turn against our earl. Or why they would resort to harming Snake.

In fact, I can see him wanting to leave our earl (or fight him)... and his snakes telling him not to. They might say life has been better with the earl. They might verify what they know the other circus members were doing. They might warn him there’s no way he could defeat Sebastian....

I’m reminded of ch66 when Charles Phipps somehow gets hold of a pungi, a snake charming pipe, and he confuses Snake along with his snakes. Sebastian could easily magic one of those into being and play it. They’d be lucky if that’s all he did. If he just distracted them.
