Just fyi, f1a starts up again this week, and if you are not watching, you should be watching. I don’t care if you’re supporting the league in a performative way, support it anyway
I think there are already a lot of good resources on what it is and why it’s good to follow for like moral reasons and support of women and girls in motorsport and stuff. I’ll reblog some of those resources as I find them this week, but there’s plenty available and also join the f1a discord but for the time being , here is my list of me refuting more practical and small f1a problems:
(1) You don’t have time to add another racing series? Guess again. The races are like 30 minutes. A lot of you following me are Williams fans. Just trade fp1, which will make you want to kill yourself anyway, for 2 awesome races. (You can also watch f1a practice and quali, but 1 hour for 2 races is a pretty good deal)
(2) Theyre f4ish equivalent cars so there’s no DRS/active aero so overtaking is boring? WRONG. Watching Maya Weug absolutely muscle her overtakes without DRS assistance was *hot*. In fact, I would argue that most f1a races last year were more entertaining than the vast majority of f1 races. There’s plenty of overtakes and a ton of contact (it’s an f4 equivalent after all)
(3) it’s hard to find coverage since I pirate so how can I watch? The races/practices/quali etc are free on YouTube.com. In fact, you can go watch some old races right now as theyre freely available.
(4) is f1a even watchable without problematic age gap yaoi? I would like to introduce you to something called problematic age gap yuri. Mother Susie and her controversially young f1a champion mistress Dori? (disclaimer: some of the drivers are minors, but many of them are not)
(5) where’s the fun content they aren’t all loaded so there’s not all this indulgent content? Many of the drivers are chronically online and will post anything and interact with fan edits and one of the recent graduates tweeted about having an ao3 account. Most of them are young and unafraid of media training rules and often their teams make them do similar videos to f1 teams so you can see those silly videos if you like
(6) When I love something I love it for too long and what if I don’t think I have it in me to commit to years? The drivers can drive for a maximum of 2 years in the academy. Pick a driver who is already on year two to root for if you only want one year of commitment. If you want something longer term, pick a team in f1a to support, or, you can follow them in the rest of the motorsport careers. I keep my eyes on how a few of the grads are doing despite not watching their series
(7) how do I decide who to root for? Well, you can go the team route or i like to pick a second year every year to root for, meaning ive already seen them on track for a year and have vibes on them all. I let my driver pick me every year so I have a new one each year. If you want a 2 year term, pick a rookie. If you want someone to pick for you, im all in on Alisha Palmowski this year. She’s so funny and I like the chaotic vibe. You may also like Ella Lloyd (who is a great driver and has Oscar’s awkwardness but to a better and more fun extent) or Alba Larsen who is fucking iconic and will be fun to see what she can do in the next few years OR: (edit because the link I had wasn’t working @maggieithink-06 has made driver profiles you should check them out under #f1a driver profiles) (edit again: jesus fuck why is won’t it let me link the profile I still haven’t learned how to use tumblr. Anyway, here’s the link to Alisha’s profile you can use it to find the rest)
(8) there’s much less race weekends than in f1, how can the championship battle build and heat up? I screamed. Screamed audibly out loud when one of the title rivals made a devastating mistake in the last weekend last season. I had to take a lap around the room to calm down enough to watch the rest of the race and couldnt make myself sit down
(9) okay so I get that the racing is fun to watch and all but where is the rpf? It exists. I still see pullpin posts even though neither of them drive for f1a anymore. You can find it, but if not, be the change you want to see in the world
(10) what will I do without my fun radios? I think of dori’s aggressively French “of course we stay out >:-|” on the regular or the classic Chloe Chambers being goaded into singing Viva Las Vegas over the radio
(11) surely in a lower series there isn’t as much messy bullshit going on? There was some towing/teammate drama in quali last year that had me SAT
