I have so much appreciation for the fact that Mirabelle likes romance subplots in books. She likes romance, as long as it’s not happening to her.
She enjoys romance tropes like enemies to lovers even though she doesn’t quite get how those feelings would work! She joins Isabeau in imagining a whole romantic story for the bonding earring couple’s eventual reunion, even though she would never want that for herself! When Odile helps her realize that Isabeau has a big ol crush on Siffrin, Mirabelle is overjoyed at the news and excited to let Isabeau talk about it with her, even though it took her longer than most to realize!
I dunno, maybe it’s because there’s so little aroace rep and there’s even less good aroace rep, I just see so many aroace characters who are romance-repulsed and make it everyone else’s problem, like “I hate romance and I hate that you hate romance!” But Mirabelle isn’t anything like that!
Odile says she thinks Isabeau didn’t tell Mira about his crush on Sif because he can tell romance makes Mira a bit uncomfortable. And Mirabelle immediately wants to hear all about Isabeau’s crush, because even though she doesn’t get romance, she loves her friends and she wants to hear about Isabeau’s feelings! It’s ridiculous how many aroace characters out there wouldn’t be willing to hear out their friends’ crushes! You don’t have to understand something to listen and show compassion!
And another thing! I love how platonic love is given so much importance! In another bathroom scene (seriously check out all the act 2 bathroom scenes they’re all ridiculously sweet), Mirabelle and Isabeau directly say that they love each other! No downplaying because it’s platonic, no trying to put a label on it, they just LOVE each other!! The whole party loves each other!!
This game makes me so normal!!!!! I shouldn’t write posts when I’m sleepy! But I need to say how much I love the rep in this game; there are TWO confirmed aspec main characters! I just love this game! Play isat people it’s so good!
