Summary:  Blake Belladonna was bad luck. At least, this was Adam’s excuse when their crops began to fail. She was a curse, he liked to say. She began to dread each moment spent alone with him, and how quickly his eyes would flash with anger. Blake wasn’t a superstitious woman, but after a while, it was hard not to feel like she was cursed. Maybe he had a point.

But curses weren’t the only superstition in their village. One night, Blake heard a sweet song echoing through the valley. Blake had never heard of a banshee before, but she couldn’t believe that such a beautiful song could be an omen of death. There had to be more to it than that. So it was refreshing, to meet someone who agreed with her.

“Weiss Schnee formally invites you to her annual Vernal Equinox Celebration,” Ruby announces, with a low bow that nearly tips her over. “And asks that you use the included RSVP card to denote your attendance post — posthastenedly.” 

 “This is — ” Blake searches for a word that isn’t insulting. It takes three full seconds and she still falls short. “ — Weird.” 

“Super weird,” Ruby agrees, straightening up like one of those inflatable tube-men often found in used car lots. “But I’m glad you’ll be there! I know we haven’t really met because I only saw you that one time you were at the apartment and I was running late for my digital culture class and —  ” Ruby’s eyes, startlingly silver in color, go wide. “Wait, oh! Should I have re-introduced myself? I’m Yang’s sister, Weiss’s friend, their other roommate; take your pick, I’ve got more!”
