She's a young one on a journey, a noble profession in pursuit,

from a country, I will always find my roots in,

my heart goes out to her in the form of words,

a slender gift to perhaps bring a smile,

or stir an emotion she shall relish for the times in need.

Her name, an amalgamation of paradise and light,

exhibiting beauty that she holds,

an elegant heart securing dreams within,

a young soul with aspirations,

she brings uniqueness to the words she weaves.

Through her words, she brings feelings to the readers,

making them realize of a hearty presence,

and still oblivious of her search,

for refuge in another heart.

Keep your head high, my sister / friend,

this journey ain't easy, but remember, with faith in your heart,

and determination in your soul,

you will not only climb mountains,

you will move them too.

Your adopted gift giver will create a gift for you with the same love and care as the original gift giver would have. You should see your gift sometime between now and January 2.

The clock struck midnight,

Like any other day.

I trudged around

The sprinklings of Winter;

I roamed around

the trenches of Cold.

An unusual task, you may ask, for a dawn so frigid?

But I must move along,

For I am snow bound.

The clock bonged again,

Six hours too late. And yet I saw you

Yawning and stretching your hands,

A half hearted effort, to be awake.

The clock chimed again, but not the hefty one,

Stuck jagged in the street, a bellicose remembrance,

Of the past-so difficult to forget.

It was the dainty clock,

The clock which you keep in your room,

To anticipate the sweeter times.

It was the onset of noon

I was still watching you.

You’ve grown so much

So much from the time at which you prayed.

Prayed for the memories, you’re making today.

There are moments when I catch you

Looking, searching and failing, to find something.

I wonder,

Is it me? Or did you wish,

For a being more ephemeral, more mundane,

And so unlike me.

Do you wish to thank me?

Do you wish to know me?

Or do you wish to ask more?

Perhaps the future that I assumed, was the one you despised the most.

But, I see you happy,

See you so happy, I forget of the child,

Who clawed her way out of a darkness so deep.

I am still scared, you see,

Of the little discrepancies in our views

Of ‘perfect’.

And hence, here I am

Trudging through the cold,

Meandering past your window,

Still sprinkling those little bits of fairy dust.

And when the clock struck midnight again,

I had to walk away,

For I cannot stay here,

Still.

I must move again and wait.

Wait for for moons to pass, till I see you again.

Older, happier.

I must move along again,

For I am snow bound.

All you have to do to sign up to adopt is send an ask to us with the phrase "adopt."

What happens when you adopt?

1. You recieve the name of a person who signed up for the secret gift exchange but is not going to receive a gift.

2. You create a gift for the person. You will have at least one week to create the gift (depending on when the adoption occurs). Most adoptions will occur after Dec 25.

3. You post your gift tagging the person and #pssecretgiftexchange in your post.

Welcome to our third annual secret holiday gift exchange! Here is a refresher of how it works!

DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE! 

1) Sign-up by sending an ask to Poeticstories with the phrase: “Secret Sign Up” before Dec 7.

2) You will receive a reply to your ask between the dates Dec 8 and Dec 14 with the name of the person you are creating the gift for.

3) Create a gift for them. It can be a photo, painting, poem, or song. Anything as long as it is original work and in keeping of the spirit of the event which is to spread positivity during the holiday season.

4) Post the gift on your blog by Dec 25th. Tag the person who the gift is for by using the "@" and also put #pssecretgiftexchange in your tags. 

5) If you do not see your post reblogged to Poeticstories in 48 hours, reach out to us via ask and we will send you a personal message.

Step 4 and 5 are very important. They ensure your person is not adopted and is able to see your post. 

Special note: some people enjoy sending an anon ask with a special message or a secret clue before they reveal themselves as the secret gift giver. If you want to participate, please turn on your inbox and turn your anon messages on. If your person does not have anon messages on, then skip this part.

Troubleshooting notes: 

- Make sure you are able to receive messages and asks from people you do not follow so you can receive the name of your person and we can manage any issues that may arise. You can turn this feature off after the event.

- Make sure we see your message. If we do not reblog your post in 48 hours, send us a message.
