⸻        ･ﾟ                 ✧              “  i  apologise  for  holding  you  up,  susie.  ”  his  smile  was   apologetic,  eyes  reflecting  a  hint  of  remorse  as  it  didn’t  quite  feel  just  to  have  her  stay  at  the  kennels  so  late.  though, admittedly,  it  was  equally as hard  to  deny  the  elation  coursing  through  his  body  at  the  prospect  of  spending  more  time  with  her—  to  get  to  know  her  better.  “  there’s  been  a  vast  increase  in  rescues.  and  while  i  love  those  little  boogers  to  death,  it  also  broadens  our  workload.  ”  he  scrunched  his  nose,  brushing  a  hand  through  his  own  hair  in an attempt to  soothe  himself.  he’d  been  terribly  worried  about  the  animals  and  their  proper  recovery.  “  on  behalf  of  the  entire  animal  welfare  society,  i  wish  to  express  my  heartfelt  gratitude  for  your  help.  ” 

really,  it  was  the  embarrassment  that  bothered  felix  most.  the  deep  and  agonising  indignity  of  it,  stripping  away  all  his  defences.  not  just  being  forced  to  sell  off  a  family  heirloom,  something  that  had  been  in  the  winward  family  for  whole  generations,  but  having  to  do  it  himself,  too.  sent  off  like  an  errand  boy by his father.  ❝ excuse  me,  miss, ❞  he  began,  giving  the  clerk  a  smile  that  was  far  closer  to  a  grimace.  holding  the  carefully-wrapped  bundle  close  to  his  chest,  a  little  awkwardly,  as  he  looked  down  at  her.  ❝ i  know  you  sell  antiques  here,  but  would  you  possibly have  any  interest  in  buying  them, too? ❞

⸻        ･ﾟ                 ♱               “   you aren't considering turning back now, are you ? ”  a  roguish grin  stretched  across his  lips,  a  mischievous  glint  in  his  eyes.  both of them would undoubtedly fall in  great  trouble  if  they  got  caught,  but  malachi  had long turned apathetic towards any risks his questionable endeavours entailed.  his  eyes  narrowed,  holding  his  hand  out  for  her  to  take.   “  what  do  you  say, susie  ?  would you like to have some fun ?  ”
