𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆 a romantic red herring 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐗 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 !! ( a private and dependent muse, penned for @prismfallshq by cee. )

admittedly,  felix  had  never  liked  the  cold  much,  but  there  were  worse  ways  to  spend  a november  evening  than  ice-skating.  he'd  planned  on  inviting  julian  along  for  company,  but  hadn't  been  able  to  find  his  friend  in  time  —  had  decided  to  just  go  alone,  instead.  he'd  hoped  there  might  be  a  little  crowd   of  skaters  already  there,  lots  of  people  to  meet  and  mingle  with,  but  instead,  he'd  arrived  to  find  only  one.  crouching  down  to  lace  up  his  skate,  felix  offered  the  girl  a  nod,  a  little  wince,  self-deprecating  and  wry.  ❝ now,  i'm  afraid  i  have  to  warn  you,  miss  —  you're  about  to  witness  some  truly  appalling  skating.  it  won't  be  pretty.  you  have  to  promise  me  you  won't  laugh,  alright? ❞

perhaps  visiting  her  at  work  wasn't  the  perfect  approach,  but  it  was  the  first  chance  he'd  had  in  weeks  to  see  her  alone.  between  her  family  and  his,  there  weren't  many  opportunities  to  have  a  quiet  chat  —  let  alone  to  try  and  make  amends.  to  ( with  any  luck )  reignite  whatever  delightful  spark  had  burned  and  perished  between  them.  and  felix  hadn't  come  empty-handed,  either;  he'd  stopped  at  the  bakery  to  buy  a  few  tarts,  first. a peace offering or a love token, whichever worked best. ❝ flowers  felt  a  little  bit  too  forward, ❞  he  remarked,  offering  hana  his  best  and  most  earnest  smile,  as he held  out  the  pastries, wrapped  in  paper  and  tied  with  blue  ribbon  ( he'd  asked  the  bakery  clerk  for  that,  specifically  —  for  just  the  right  shade  of  blue, the one he thought would suit her best ).  briefly,  felix  glanced  around,  making  sure  that  none  of  the  other  staff  were  loitering  around.  ensuring that  they  truly  were  alone.  then,  lowering  his  voice  a  fraction,  he  went  on;  ❝ you  don't  mind  me  coming  by,  do  you?  i  wanted  to  see  you,  and  i  wasn't  sure  where  else. . . ❞

a  muscle  in  felix's  jaw  twitched,  the  only  outward  sign  of  distress  as  the  realisation  dawned  on  him.  not  again  —  julian  couldn't  be  doing  this  to  him  again.  not  another  inane  little  excursion.  and  after  he'd  put  on  his  finest  coat  and  jacket,  too,  and  taken  such  care  washing  and  combing  his  hair.  the  unfairness  of  it  was,  frankly,  staggering.  ❝  i  assume  we're  only  here  for  a  few  quick  errands, then?  ❞  he  asked,  forcing a pained grin, desperately  hopeful that there might still be a party or a luncheon in his immediate future. that julian had more in mind for their day together than this.  ❝  buying  some  cider  and  pastries  to  take  away  with  us,  perhaps. ❞
