So I just started thinking that Roman and Janus need to be connected. They all have Ancient Roman names and they all have known relationships.
- Roman and Remus are twins
- King Romulus is Roman and Remus
- Janus is basically the mother of Remus, he held Remus back and they are probably close
- But then Janus and Roman don’t really have a known relationship
So I was thinking (for way longer than I should have) about what kind of relationship Janus and Roman could have. It was strangely hard since Roman’s standing with Janus changes like literally every episode.
I thought that it has to be some familial or close relationship because everyone in the Ancient Roman group has some close/familial relationship to each other.
The list of things I thought about is: Dark side Roman theory/au, Boyfriends/exes, another mother relationship like with Janus and Remus, and distant cousins(?? I can’t really explain it, I was grasping at straws)
I don’t really think that any of these are true now, because then I started thinking about how Roman’s opinion on Janus changes every time and how it kind of has a trackable development.
So this is how I think Roman and Janus’ possible connection could go:
- Sometime before, Roman says that Virgil is “better than some of the others” (I’m pretty sure, I couldn’t find it to check) Anyways, Roman said ‘some’ specifically, he also might not have known Janus at this time and I’ll explain why in a minute. I just want to add this Bc I know that this did happen. So Roman either met Janus before this quote or a little after it. (And I think it’s the after option.)
- In “Can Lying be Good?” Roman doesn’t seem to really know Janus that much (this is why I say the he might’ve met Janus after his quote because he doesn’t really know him). Evidence for why Roman doesn’t know Janus as much as the others? He was the last side to realize that Patton was Janus in disguise (Logan and Virgil knew very quickly as seen with Logan’s quote “Oh, you mean how he’s obviously—“ Logan probably knew first with Virgil close after and with Roman being far behind). Also, Roman doesn’t really know how Janus acts even though he has met Janus before “oh I get it now” (he knows Janus) “However, he is very nice” (Roman doesn’t know that much about the lying). I think he met Janus a little before this video and then shows his ignorance(?) in how Janus acts, he clearly doesn’t hate Janus in this video and I would dare say that he is might be between indifference and liking Janus in this video.
- I think that their relationship develops after this to friends (or it could be boyfriends for the Roceits, though I know some friends also jokingly flirt with each other so yeah)
- In SvS, you can see how Roman and Janus have clearly developed their relationship with each other. They’re joking and Janus flirts with Roman throughout the whole video. Roman is on Janus’ side throughout the video until the very end where he chooses to go to the wedding even though he really wants the callback. Needless to say, they are friends or boyfriends during this video.
- What happens immediately after this is kind of up to debate. It could be a fallout because Janus didn’t want Roman to choose the wedding or it could be (how a lot of fanfics made it) Janus and Roman feeling bad because Roman did it to pander to the others even though he still wants the callback.
- If it’s the latter, there’s still a falling out. It’s clear in SvSR that at least Roman thinks that he was being manipulated in SvS like in Can Lying be Good. Whether Janus actually did use Roman is up to debate.
- No matter what, there is some falling out between Janus and Roman after SvS and now Roman has a vendetta against Janus.
- In SvSR, Roman goes against Janus and even becomes slightly hypocritical “we are ethically compromised if we give the bananaconda a seat...” (compared to in SvS “are you so vain to think that just because it’s someone you don’t like, that they’re lying?” Or something like that). And his... dislike towards Janus makes him make fun of Janus’ name which makes Janus fire back. I think they both regret what they said but Roman sinks out.
- I think that they’re probably going to make up soon, they both regret what they said and probably still like each other. Lots of apologies. Though I don’t think it’s going to happen next video since that’s almost certain to be about Janus and Virgil.
Long story short- Roman and Janus met and became good friends or boyfriends before a falling out after SvS because either Janus used Roman or Roman just thinks that Janus used him. This caused Roman to have a vendetta against Janus during SvSR which ended in both of them saying things that they both regret and they’ll probably have to make up in the future.
Idk I spent way too long on this but I think it still has holes :T
Give me your own theories on Janus and Roman’s relationship, give me more evidence for this one, or present some arguments! I would love to hear what other people think! ^_^
I rlly don’t know, this just came up because I went on a limb by thinking that the ‘Ancient Roman group’ (as I shall call them) should have connections between each other Bc they all have the same theme in their names. And now because I can’t not see how Janus and Roman seem to have a changing and developing relationship throughout the videos.
Also no, I don’t rlly think that Janus and Roman were boyfriends canonically or anything lol. It’s just a thing for the people who want it or for an AU and fanfic :P
