Prose Reading Update: June 6, 2026
I'm 2/3 through the Thrawn trilogy, baby!
I originally read Heir to the Empire back in junior high and then just got wrapped up in teen life and fell off the series. Re-read Heir recently, now in my 40s, and I'm continuing along through this trilogy by Timothy Zahn, now having finished Dark Force Rising. I read most of Heir on a Kindle, but I switched over to vintage mass-market paperbacks for the remainder of the trilogy and I'm glad I did. Nothing against any particular form of reading: read on hardback, read on e-ink, read via audiobook - you gotta do what works for you. But I hadn't realized how much I missed holding a paperback novel in my hands.
I don't like to put down one thing in order to raise up another thing, but I feel like it must be said that having lived to see the
Disney Sequel Trilogy through to the end, these novels seem even more intelligent and well-planned.
I have a feeling that once I'm through this trilogy, every time a new Star Wars thing comes my way, part of me will be thinking, "But where's Mara Jade? Where's Mara Jade??"
