A visit to Phoenix without a stop at the Heard Museum would be incomplete. This Southwest staple has over 40,000 items of American Indian art in its collection, however, that’s just the beginning. The stunning Heard Museum campus was built in 1929 by Dwight B. and Maie Bartlett Heard and many of the original galleries still exist today. From Frida and Diego to famous American Indian jewels and artists, the Heard Museum is a destination for traditional and Contemporary Indigenous art. My timeline will walk you through important moments that made the Heard what it is today - a living museum in the heart of Phoenix. -Taylor Bishop
