Today we celebrate the Synaxis of the Holy 70 Apostles. These Apostles were chosen by Christ and sent out two by two to preach the Gospel all over the known world. Some of the more well-known Apostles include Luke and Mark the Evangelists, Stephen the Protomartyr, Prochorus the disciple of Saint John the Evangelist, Cleopas to whom Christ appeared on the way to Emmaus, Philip the Deacon and many others. Many of these Apostles died martyric deaths while others reposed peacefully in the Lord.
