When it comes to threats facing our endangered gibbon population - deforestation comes to mind. But not many actually realise that the pet trade is also a big factor in systematically wiping out entire families in the quest to literally pry a baby from a dead mother’s arms. Gibbons have VERY close-knit family units and will protect their baby to the death. For every baby gibbon paraded on social media by some attention-hungry, ignorant moron... is a backstory of that baby’s family being slaughtered. So the next time you see a friend or some celebrity showing off their little primate baby, remember the REAL message being sent out : that they endorse cruelty to animals, perpetuating the illegal pet trade and contributing to the dwindling numbers of an endangered species. “Happy” World Animal Day? I think not. We humans need to get our shit together first. 😑 #worldanimalday #conservation #protection #gibbon #illegalpettrade #cruelty #primatesarenotpets #worldprimateday #ungka #animalwelfare #weareallgodscreatures love #nature #motherearth #rootsandshoots #animals #wildlife #environment #endangeredspecies https://www.instagram.com/p/BogUgZMHGDg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1snewtmkw55mn
