Lia has been dreaming about Prom since middle school--though she hadn’t actually started planning prom until around her sophomore year. As with all things Miss Barnes does, everything was intentional, especially the dress. Lia and Jack had picked the color scheme of their evening out together that year, but she picked her dress--and told no one. Not a single soul has ever seen this dress--and not a soul was going to, she thought. Never in her life was she more pleased that she had kept her dress all these years. The dress is a complete 180 from the ones she had worn for her pageants, and that was on purpose. First and foremost, she got to pick her dress, not her mother. She had picked a ballroom gown, one that didn’t hug her curves the way the other dresses did. She had wanted to feel different when she entered her prom, not as if she was on stage for all to see. She liked the way this dress fell around her, like she was floating. It was comfortable and it made her feel..well, like an actual princess. She couldn’t bear the idea of parting with it, and she’s glad she didn’t. This is by far her favorite dress, and she cannot wait to finally wear it to a dance.
For this prom, she had decided to keep it simple, letting her dress shine more than the other pieces of her outfit. Her hair in loose curls, a few gems for a pop, her shoes simple and basic and her make up the same. The whole look was supposed to be a unlike anything she’d wear on a stage--it was supposed to be a better representation of who she was. And sure, if her dress looks like Cinderella, that was absolutely on accident...right?
