I'm on a dive in GDR music past again, and stumbled on this one

Did anyone ever see this one? Feeling B and Paul are mentioned in the cast as well, although i assume only in a small part.

Yes, there absolutely is potential. The Pre-Rammstein time actually had Paul and Richard working together a lot, with sounds and in the wydock studio that they build together in aljoshas squat. And there was so cold that Richard could not properly record guitars for ODG so that instead of guitar solo they thought oh why not just add bagpipes here.

"I liked how he thought about music. We completed eachother", Richard said about making ODG recordings with Paul. And I want to believe this account that Richard actually played a gig for Feeing B when Paul was sick!

And look, how Paul made Richard take over his place in Die Firma as Tatjana all the time complained about how Paul is always away for Feeling B and has no time for both bands. And in this rare ODG interview Richard also said that in the end Paul had also no time for finishing the mixing. So I can picture jealous Richard very well. Paul had many people to be with and many bands to play in - i counted total 15 projects he been part in at pre-Rammstein time :D He was a little missile.

It would be interesting to know why you thought Oliver and Richard were the oldest! But yes, the two of them are the two youngest Rammstein members. Richard was born in 1967, so only one year after Schneider and Flake, while Oliver is the Rammstein "baby", four years younger than Richard, and the only member born in the 70s.

I guess age didn't matter that much when they met back in East Germany music scene...

Flake and Paul first met at Flake's second rehearsal with Feeling B (the first one where they actually played, as the time before they just got drunk). Paul arrived before Flake was drunk, and was very surprised when he saw a young student-like guy opening the door for him. Flake, on the other hand, stared straight at a man with short hair in front, long in the back, and a moustache.

The two of them met Till while they were in Schwerin with Feeling B. They more or less barged into his place one night when all the pubs were closed, and turned his house upside down.

Till, the oldest Rammstein member, noticed Richard, the second youngest, because Richard's hairdo reminded him of a chipmunk. Richard met Paul and Flake through Till.

Schneider first saw Feeling B in 1983, when he was an apprentice in communications engineering where Paul was one year further along, but he only knew Paul by sight. He had, as the only Rammstein member, joined the army, but he came back in 1988 with a powerful hatred of the army, the GDR, and socialism. That was when he started looking for cool people in the underground scene. Schneider met Paul through Die Firma, and from that, he went on to play in Feeling B. Flake he had known for a while through other musicians.

Oliver, the youngest Rammstein member, didn't start playing an instrument until he was 19, when he started playing classical guitar. He didn't know many other musicians and felt a bit lonely until he met Richard, and the two of them played classical guitar together every Sunday. It is natural to assume that Oliver met the other musicians through Richard.

What does a typical day look like for a 13-year-old who wants to become a professional swimmer?

Till: We usually started training at 6 a.m. in the morning. On Wednesdays it always started at 7 a.m., that was our big day of sleeping in. As an eleven-year-old you don't really notice it all — a child is still extremely malleable and puts up with everything. The rebellion came later — at least for me.

Was it a major turning point in your life when you stopped training as a professional?

Till: Yes, I fell into a real hole. My life has totally changed. From that point on, a new building in Rostock-Evershagen was suddenly my home. You could also say "ghetto"... I had to go through various "exams" and distinguish myself through alcohol and fights. When it comes to girls, I kind of came out of a glass house: before, there were only fine ladies around me who were interested in swimming and sports. We shared the same position in life. Suddenly, wild matrons stood in front of me and asked me: "What, you don't drink? What's wrong with you?” Or if I was too shy to talk to a girl, it was like: “Are you gay?” I had never been confronted with such things before, I practically lived in a different world.

What have you done to defend yourself against such attacks?

Till: In the beginning I was often involved in fights and I always got punched in the face. But slowly I became aware of my strength, because the training made me totally fit and in top condition. A normal student might have big upper arms but less strength than me because I'd spent half the day training.

Did you continue to exercise regularly after you stopped swimming?

 This is my rough translation from book “Freiheit Blues und Scherben” by Frank Döhring. 

“Magdalene Keibel Combo, the offshoot of Feeling B only drew a few people in front of the stage at that time of the day. Most people might have been sleeping off their intoxication from the day before or the morning pint.

Me and Hudson stood in front of the stage to see what was offered - two guys with guitars. One of them with very idiosyncratic hairstyle that looked as if he had cut his own hair shortly before. He had youthful mischievous smile and it made him very sympathetic. The other guy was big, sloppy with glasses on the thinner side, undefinable and dressed in plaid shirt and did not necessarily look like a musician.
