Suptober21, day 2 No Vacancy // Flufftober2021, day 2 Sneaking Out Together
Dean can't sleep without Castiel. Sam is right there in the room.
Castiel was almost asleep when he felt a soft pull on the sheets, then nothing moving. He opened an eye. In the faint glow of the street light coming in through the worn out curtains, he saw Dean had sat up from the floor. His hands were gripping the side of the bed, his chin resting between them. He was looking at Castiel with a question in his eyes.
- What, Dean?” Castiel whispered.
- Can I come in? I don’t want to be on the floor tonight.” Dean was whispering cautiously too.
Castiel sighed. “Dean, you know what happens when we sleep in the same bed.”
Dean smiled, “Yeah…” Then he didn’t. “Dude, come on. This hunt is taking everything out of me, I can’t sleep.
- But Sam is right there.”
On the other bed, Sam was sprawled, and snoring softly.
Dean got up higher a bit to look at Sam over Castiel. “Heh. He’s sleeping. He won’t notice.
- Since when Sam snores?
- I dunno man. I don’t watch him sleep.” He looked pointedly at Castiel, “Unlike someone I know, it’s not one of my pastimes.”
Castiel rubbed his forehead with impatience. He whispered as low as he could. “Sam is not sleeping. He’s snoring so he doesn’t hear us talking.
- Oh, so now you’re the Sam expert?
Castiel looked pointedly at Dean, “Unlike someone I know, I pay attention and I notice things.”
Dean frowned and pursed his lips. He looked up again, then came back to his initial position and pouted. “So can I come in?”
- Dean, no. You know that. After what happened last time, we promised.”
Sam snored a bit louder.
Dean pulled himself up a bit and kissed Castiel on the forehead. “I love you, you insufferable stubborn hotstuff.” He disappeared down.
- I love you too, Dean.”
Sam coughed and resumed snoring.
Not 30 seconds passed.
Castiel felt the light pull on the covers again. He opened an eye. Dean’s eyes had a bit of a mischievous twinkle. Castiel didn’t know if he should smile or frown.
- Hey, I was thinking, we could get another room. For once.
- The whole town is full, Dean. The sports event, remember?
Dean grunted and disappeared.
Not 10 seconds passed.
Castiel didn’t even bother opening his eyes when he felt the pull on the sheets.
- Hey. Better idea. We take the sheets and the covers, and we go sleep in the woods behind the hotel.
Castiel opened his eyes. “We’d have to pass the front desk without getting caught.”
Sam coughed again like had choked on air. He shifted positions and quickly resumed snoring,
Castiel and Dean undid the bed quietly and folded everything the best they could. They dressed back in their day clothes. They were proud they didn’t make any noise.
Sam sat up in his bed. “OH MY GOD. I’M GONNA GO SLEEP IN THE CAR I SWEAR.”
Dean’s eyes went to Castiel beside him. “I think we made more noise than we thought.”
Sam’s face was clear: he was done with all of it. “You don’t whisper very well either.”
Castiel turned to Dean. “I told you.”
Dean mimicked an exasperated child. “Oh good for you.”
Sam rubbed his face. “Just. Go.”
He heard Dean tell Castiel, as they closed the door on their way out, “Hey, that saves us leaving him a note.
- Dean.
The night clerk was reading at the front desk. There was no sneaking by without some ruse.
Dean proposed, “We stuff your trenchcoat with all the stuff, tie it shut, and you crawl on the floor while I talk to the guy.
- And then what? The door opens by itself?
- Ah shit.
- Also, I’m not crawling on the floor.
- No, not crawling-crawling. Just on all fours.” He eyed Castiel. “You know… on all fours…
- Dean.
Castiel countered, “Just go ask the clerk for help with the vending machine outside.
- But I wasn’t outside. It’ll be weird.
- Then go outside and come back in.
Dean’s demeanor melted. “I always forget you were a high-ranked general in heaven. You’re really good with strategic stuff.
- This is insulting to my capacities. Go.
Dean executed the plan perfectly. He then joined Castiel, who was waiting for him right out of sight, in the woods.
- Hey. That worked!
- Of course.
- Where’s the blankets?
- I found a nice spot without too many roots. Come.
They cuddled close under the cheap comforter. Dean finally relaxed. “Thanks Cas. I really couldn’t sleep back there.
- You’ve slept in worse conditions.
- It’s not about the floor. It’s about the hunt.
- It’s just a ghost.
- It’s the ghost of a mom who died in a fire.
- Oh.” Castiel held Dean closer, tighter. He kissed his head, niched in his neck. “I understand.” He kissed him again. “I hope you can sleep now.”
Dean nuzzled in closer. “I think I will. I love you.
