This is a HUGE topic, and a tricky one because we want yoga to be welcoming to ALL- those who are Spiritual AND those who subscribe to a particular religion. โข To practice yoga is to embrace that there is an aspect of a higher form in it, but who are we to say how you define โGodโ or highest Self? We are looking at Brahma not to dictate what the name of God is, but rather to invite each yogis interpretation of their highest power (and for some that might not even identify as โgodโ). Whether youโre A Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist (read, maybe โGodโ is you or community or something thatโs not a god), etc. yoga can speak to you. โข This week we will be practicing around the concept of beginnings. However you define that within your faith parameters is welcome! We will share it from our understanding and welcome a collaboration of yours as well. We hope to appreciate the ancient yoga culture and roots, while allowing for consideration of modern interpretations and adaptations. โข Cited is a wonderful podcast shared by one of our teacher trainees @jmurph_indy that discusses yoga and colonialism. Yoga cannot be discussed without privilege, colonialism and appropriation AND we have the opportunity to create a new beginning and open the conversation to how we can apply these ancient concepts to our modern life.
