Pretty Vanya gives the kind of vibe you'd find with tales like The Farmer's Clever Daughter or Mother Holle, stories about wit and understanding rules, when they matter, and HOW they matter.
oH i didn't recognize these by name, so i looked them up, and i'm very amused that the first one is referenced in the original fic (albeit in one of the chapters i never finished and posted orz)-- late in the fic, vanya tells them their next destination is oostal's dreamworld, and that it can not be reached by normal means. haru kind of lightly questions if it's a riddle, wherein one must arrive with one leg in a wagon and another on a donkey etc. etc.
as well, the second also fits very well, and is definitely a general plot i'm very familiar with, haha. the world and inhabitants of oostal would very much operate on that logic of rewarding not only kindness, cleverness, and hard work, but those who understand how to navigate their demands and expectations, as well
and i like to think it plays out in a lot of oostal's small histories, too-- the tasks grandmother has currently given to vanya to complete, the wandering hero's probably Entire Existence, understanding dima's role in the place, etc.
