After construction on the TRON roller coaster at the Magic Kingdom was suspended back in January 2021, work has apparently resumed. Much sooner than I would have expected. Disney still won't commit to whether or not the coaster will open in 2021, however.

I'm thinking the coaster probably won't open until 2022. Though I'm certain Disney wanted to open it in time for Magic Kingdom's 50th Anniversary.

Now, though, if Disney opens the TRON coaster in 2022, it will be during the year of TRON's 40th Anniversary.

Though I don't believe an official date was given, it was widely assumed the TRON roller coaster would open on the Magic Kingdom's 50th anniversary (October 1, 2021). Sadly, though, it looks like the opening of the coaster might be delayed.

Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, Disney parks largely remain empty and their movie release plans have been derailed. As a result, they are currently in a financially precarious position, and cutting back on spending. And it looks like construction on the TRON roller coaster will be temporarily halted, as a cost-saving measure.

So, I have no idea how accurate this source of news is. But based on the source’s Twitter timeline, it seems pretty legit. (Thanks to @astraica for making me aware of it!)

This individual is stating that the Tomorrowland Speedway ride – at Magic Kingdom, in Walt Disney World Florida – may be replaced by a TRON roller coaster, by the 50th Anniversary of the park. Which would be in 2021.

It’s also stated that whether or not the coaster is built, depends on reception of a TRON 3 film. Huh.

This lines up with earlier information I have, that always places the coaster as being built at WDW in Florida. In fact, this latest rumor places the coaster almost exactly where the info I had, over a year ago, said it would be.
