Story underneath so you don’t have to have your screen taken over by text if you don’t want to read it.
I was going to make this into a comic, buuuuut that would take too much work. This is a AU I made using the characters from the Life Series. This mainly focuses on the characters from Lim Life, but I did incorporate a few differences in friends and am trying to include all characters. Even the ones that were in Lim Life. I’ve had this writing in my drafts for a few months and finally had the courage to release the first part. So please let me know how you like it.

“That was pretty good guys,” Grian grinned, wrapping up the cord of his mic around his palm.
“Pretty good! That was amazing!” Gem exclaimed, clapping her hands as she stood up from the couch, beaming like a child on Christmas morning.
“Jimmy was a little pitchy…” Mumbo mumbled from the couch, scrolling on his phone as he smirked under his mustache.
“Oi! You shut it, Jumbo!” Jimmy snapped.
Joel rolled his eyes and started grabbing his things as Gem walked up next to him.
“Could you walk me home again?”
The drummer smiled and nod, “When would I not?”
The two were childhood best friends and were pretty much siblings, due to how much time their mothers had spent together. And he much Gem’s mum helped his—
“Hey, Ish. Keep a beat next time. You were all over the place,” Grian chimed in, resting an arm on Joel’s shoulder, having to raise his heels off the ground to do so.
“Oh hush,” Joel mumbled, shrugging him off as he put on his jacket, feeling the familiar, warm leather weight on his back. “Thanks Tim for letting us use your garage again.”
Jimmy shrugged, “Thank my parents for dealing with our Bull at 9:30 at night.”
“It’s your bedroom.”
“And it’s a beautiful bedroom,” Jimmy said curtly.
“Beautiful? That’s an interesting way to put it…” Mumbo muttered, eyeing the women on the various posters that were pinned against the walls of the garage.
Joel smirked before gesturing Gem to head out, which she did with a smile. The drummer gave a wave to the band before heading out. It had rained that morning and the dew was making the air sticky. But Joel kept his jacket on, hands in his pockets with his drum sticks sticking out.
The minutes were quiet before Joel realized Gem was talking.
“Sorry, what did you say?” He asked, coming out from his zoned out state.
Gem blinked and looked at him, her thin rimmed glasses making her large eyes larger.
“I was saying that I didn’t know what G was talking about. You sounded on beat to me.”
Joel smiled before watching the sidewalk go by under their feet. Her perfectly white sneakers trying to stay in sync with his beaten up Converses.
“Thanks Gem.”
“Hey, are you okay?”
His dull brown eyes flickered up to the view in front of him. A dark void of the neighborhood they lived in, light posts and the moon creating enough light for him to see a meter.
“Joel?”
“I’m fine.”
He didn’t even need to turn his head to see his best friend’s concerned, green eyes staring at him. That was when he realized her sneakers weren’t in sync with him. He didn’t even see them. He halted to turn around, seeing her completely stopped, arms crossed and head tilted down.
“Gem—“
“Joel.”
He ran his tongue over his teeth before looking away from her with a huff.
“Joel, why won’t you be honest with me?”
“I’m fine, Gem.”
A pause.
“How’s your mum?”
Silence.
“Can this wait?”
“Joel.”
“Gem?”
He turned to face her again. This time, those green eyes were glossy.
“Oh, Gem…” he mumbled, opening his arms.
She rest her forehead on his shoulder as they hugged.
“You know I’m here for you. My mum and dad are here for you. Both of you.”
Joel licked his chapped bottom lip as he stroked her ginger braid.
“Let’s get you home.”
He felt her jaw open on his chest, then close, then a nod of her head.
The sneakers started walking again, but weren’t trying to keep in line with the Converses. There was not a single word shared until they got to the front door of the Tay’s house hold.
“Good night Gem.”
“You know I’m just a call away.”
His diafram exhaled as he closed his eyes.
“I know.”
Gem grabbed his face, making him stare into the concerned mother eyes, a pair of eyes he’d never seen in his own mum.
“Please, Joel.”
He grabbed her hands gently and closed them together, one on top of the other.
“I promise, I will.”
Firm eyes. No hesitation. Meaning it. Poker face.
Gem didn’t call his bluff and nodded, “Okay. Get some water and sleep.”
Joel only nod as he let go of her hands, giving a lopsided smile.
Gem returned the smile before backing away and heading into her home, leaving Joel alone to find the balls to do a 180 and go to his own home across the street. He clenched his fists, chewed off nails digging into his palms, not creating more than an indent, before he turned on his heel. One step at a time.
Left.
Right.
Left.
Right.
He hadn’t even bothered to walk on his driveway. Just cut straight through the grass. Before he knew it, the doorknob was within arms reach. He stared at it, knowing it was unlocked. He forgot to lock it when heading to Tim’s, and knew damn well his mum hadn’t checked.
His hand clamped around the metal, turned it, and stepped into the void he called home.
Home.
