Now the 70th anniversary edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 has just come to an end in Vienna, Austria, I’d like to share some of my thoughts. This time, Bulgaria won the contest. It was their first victory in the competition, so congratulations to them.

But I still find myself struggling to understand the concept, the values, and the direction this contest is trying to move in. Although this year featured more musical genres than last year, in my personal opinion, the songs still lacked modernity and any truly interesting sound.

Out of all 35 songs, I only liked two. And even they don't differ much from last year's entries, meaning it’s nothing new or exciting. And that really disappoints me. For some reason, artists keep creating clichéd songs tailored specifically for the 'Eurovision format,' trying to replicate the success of previous winners, and playing it safe instead of experimenting.

I see absolutely no evolution or value in this contest from a musical standpoint. Maybe I just want Eurovision to stop being a mediocre hit parade on some random radio station and actually start setting musical trends. To finally stop primitive music from winning. But perhaps I’m expecting too much…
