Homestuck is a sprawling epic about love, friendship, life, death, self-acceptance, and personal growth. It’s also about a video game, aliens, time travel, teenagers being teenagers, and the end of the world.
To elaborate, four friends (John, Rose, Dave, and Jade) play the beta release of a game called Sburb. This computer game allows them to modify their real life environments; their first task is to escape through the first gate in the game to escape their world, because meteors are raining down to destroy the entire planet. Without them we wouldn’t have a story, so they of course survive to continue this hellish game. They become the last four humans in the universe, and they must complete the game to earn the ultimate reward:  a new universe to call home. They are assisted by sprites: game constructs the created out of two components each: a jester doll and John’s grandmother, a lovecraftian princess doll and dead pet cat, a crow and Dave’s clone, and Jade and her dog. And of course, the four teens have the help of the twelve trolls.
