Watched Bad Boys 2 last night. The last act of the movie is these Miami cops getting support from literal delta force and getting CIA resources to penetrate Cuba and straight up just engage in state terror. Just start blowing shit up, shooting people. It's like Commando, with a bunch of fatigue-adorned swarthy goons getting machine-gunned to bits in a palatial mansion. There's a car chase sequence structured around a race to friendly American territory on Cuba; GITMO. There's also a current through the whole movie where psychiatrized emasculation is aligned with eastern religion, like buddha statues and talk about feng shui. This is all pivoting around Martin Lawrence's character getting shot through the buttcheek by Will Smith's character in the opening scene, being injured by it, and even saying he got nerve damage and can't achieve erection. The concern of the film is a Russian mobster (Peter Stormare) distributing ecstasy, which comes from this Cuban baddie. Lawrence's character takes some ecstasy between scenes, which leads to a comedy sequence where he is, again, too gay, affectionate, and emotional. This is, again, aligned with eastern religion. Following this scene, after they are told by a doctor to just keep him cool so he doesn't "burn up," he declares he's now able to achieve erection again. Which is itself a very interesting statement on the war on drugs, which is the justification for all the police gun violence and state terrorism in the movie.
