Many people who are more affluent enjoy the aesthetics of the cleaner and opulent science fiction locations seen in MASS EFFECT, like the Citadel’s presidium or Illium’s higher city levels. Those refined fashions, spotless surfaces and trivial concerns etc...
For me though as someone who has had to move around a lot and lived in some pretty dodgy buildings and neighbourhoods etc. I personally found the dirtier, abandoned and more rundown locations far more relatable because they resembled those areas I have lived in best... Kadara’s slums, Omega’s streets, Fero’s crumbling ancient city walls and many of the other poorer or less economically stimulated locations seen in the MASS EFFECT games, even comics I feel right at home in.
I’m used to cracked surfaces, trash everywhere, mould, flaky paint, crumbling infrastructure, weathered faces, scruffy carpets, ceiling leakages, ...Badly blocked toilets lol and loud noises. These locations are the best in the series and they need more love for their realness
