Azula's Age Based on her Appearance
Not sure if it's just me or maybe others might agree as well but to me, most of the time, Azula looks like she's around 18-20 years old. This is especially so when she's shown to be dominant over her subjects and even have authority over adults who are much older than her. I just love the fact that by being mature and using her capabilities to showcase the power she possesses, she is able to use them to rule over others. She doesn't need her title as a princess to intimidate anyone. Her words and the way she portrays herself alone is enough to show others that she's not someone to be taken lightly. Even the Dai Li agents who are all adults fear her. And it's not because she's a princess and that they must submit to her. They only need to submit to the Earth Kingdom rulers. But it's because of the way that she is able to manipulate the Dai Li agents that she is able to rule over them and take them away from Long Feng. She doesn't need to be a princess to show her worth.
But behind that mask she wears all the time to maintain her sovereignty over her subjects, we can see that deep down, Azula is just a scared little girl who is afraid of her father.
And I just love it that when she becomes afraid and vulnerable, it suddenly brings back the child in her. And it always slaps me in the face every time I watch this scene, reminding me that Azula is JUST A 14 YEARS OLD GIRL! She looks nowhere close to an adult or someone who is in their late teen (as seen in the first two pictures above) when she reveals the girl behind that mask. It often amazes me to see that Azula can look so much older in age and so much younger at the same time depending on whether she is able to put on that mask, a mask she wears all the time to hide her own insecurities. And it's when she couldn't put on that mask that we truly see how young she actually is.
(Also notice how Azula only allows herself to appear to be afraid when Ozai isn't looking at her - she's afraid that her father will think that she's weak for showing fear)
