Would I be considered hard of hearing if my ears get plugged really easily to the point I have to get them cleaned by a doctor quite often or everything will be extremely muffled? I also had a lot of hearing problems when I was younger and have APD. Thank you!
We get a lot of questions like this on our blog, and the truth is we can’t truly answer it. Being hard of hearing is an identity you can have when, by definition, you have at least mild hearing loss. Many people in the deaf community consider people with the conditions you’ve listed as hard of hearing, but many people in the community do not.
I’m sorry that the answer could not be any clearer, but there is not really a black and white answer to this question.
