My first post of 2022 - let’s kick things off with a bang:

Here we have a Mace Windu hilt by 89Sabers, sporting GOTH’s Master Chassis, printed in Rhodium & 18K Gold-Plated Brass. While not (in my opinion) my finest work, I do think this is a strong contender for one of the nicest sabers I’ve ever built.

Only the best for the Korun Master of the Order and resident Bad Mother Fucker. 

And as it happened, when I was commissioned to build this saber, I was also reading Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover, for the first time. First off, the TL;DR version of my review for that book is that it’s legitimately brilliant, and people should talk about it more often. 

Alright, I’ll admit it: I don’t hate everything about the prequels, just most things. There’s a difference. 

Case in point, the lightsabers. Sure, they’re not as visually interesting as the OT sabers, if only because they were machined from scratch instead of being real-world objects that were later coopted for the films. But there’s some charm to be found in the PT sabers. If nothing else it serves as a visual clue that there’s a distinct separation between the two trilogies. 

The Jedi Order of old essentially provided everything a young Jedi would need to build his first blade; blank shrouds, power converters, high-energy flux apertures, and above all a safe place to build it. After the fall of the Jedi, you gotta to work for that shit, son. Have fun putting together what is, if assembled incorrectly, a small bomb while ducking blaster fire in the back alley of a cantina. It amounts to one of the more interesting dichotomies between the two stories, in my opinion.
