Frankish music, Planctus de Obitu Karoli.
From my French, I think the word «Planctus» has some similarity to «Plaint», which refers to a complaint or grievance. I could be wrong, though. I had to look up the term “Frankish”, and found that this was in fact music from the Carolingian Empire. This is classed as the Middle Ages, which means that I must stop thinking of the medieval period as being any time between 1000-1300. I am allowing my musical knowledge to cover the actual history. The Carolingian Empire began in the 7th century, which is classed as the Middle Ages. (A quick Wikipedia scan says the Middle Ages lasted between the 5th-15th century, so 600′s to 1400′s. This makes sense. I am mostly interested in the 1100′s-1300′s).
