Tsukasa & Kanji
Within the manga, Tsukasa and Amane are depicted using less kanji in their speech when they are toddlers. This is an easy way to express the characters' comparative immaturity, particularly in contrast to their older selves, while still maintaining similar manners of speech.
But there are multiple versions of these young Yugis, right? According to Amane, there's not only him and his younger brother, but also the thing now wearing his brother's skin:
So... yeah. Basically, I wanted to examine Tsukasa's speech patterns in hopes of learning more about him. :)
Some thoughts on Tsuchigomori, the 4 O'clock Library, and Amane & Tsukasa
this kinda rambly, but i haven't seen these ideas thrown around anywhere and it was driving me nuts, SO
I was wondering why Tsuchigomori and the 4 O'clock Library books seem so underutilized as a plot point, since it feels like he would have so much information that the audience wouldn't. It'd be easy exposition if we really needed it.
And also, if Tsuchigomori knew as much as he said he did, i feel like his behavior would be different. Especially if the books mention the stuff that happened at the Red House. Idk, something just felt kinda off, and it was driving me up a wall
So why? Was there a reason they weren't being used? What was going on here??
So here's my theory/analysis on all this
From what we're told, the 4 O'clock Library is a record of your life at the school.
It's not a complete record of someone's life. This is important to note. It's only a record of your time involved with the school itself.
This includes times when you're not directly at the school, as shown by Yashiro writing her poem about Hanako. She did that at home (she's out of uniform and writing at a desk, at night, with tea), but because she's a student at the school, the action was still recorded in her book
And from what we see of Yashiro's book, the entrees aren't 100% omniscient. They don't know everything.
They're told from her perspective, as if she's writing her own autobiography, her tone and everything, only in 3rd person.
The entries from the past are more complete than the ones from the future, for this reason. Because Present Yashiro already knows Aoi and Hanako. But the future ones seem more vague.
For example, "She learns School Mystery No 7's true identity."
It doesn't say "She learns Hanako used to be Yugi Amane," or "Hanako's real name is Yugi Amane." The book doesn't go into that specific detail, because she doesn't know it yet. It's not about her. The book wouldn't record it like that, because it's from her perspective, her third person experiences, so it just says "she learned his true identity." It doesn't even mention Tsuchigomori's involvement with it.
Or "She shares her first kiss with Hanako."
It doesn't say "She kisses Hanako on the cheek," because Yashiro is a romantic, and so she would focus on romanticizing the moment as a "first kiss."
The book doesn't tell her who her future date is with either, just that he'll break her heart.
The books don't have complete, perfect information on the future. Just what people experience, from their perspective, and records it from that point of view.
Feat Yugi Amane and Pit God
everything is fine except the pit god duplicated its consciousness and inserted it into mitsuba somehow during the year and kou's hand is shaking over his raiteijou as he points it towards something that is decisively not mitsuba but has mitsuba's smile and holds mitsuba's camera delicately and blinks slowly with pretty pink eyes. he calls forth weak lightning, and--
not-mitsuba hugs him.
kou wavers.
that's all it takes for two boys to be found dead in a well, like someone dragged them over and inside. both, upon health checks, were alive and healthy. no one finds out why until a girl knocks on a toilet stall, but by then, they've been long, long forgotten.
or: tshd au but not (hypothetically happens before the events of tbhk)

Ok so for TBHK swap.. does Amane have the pit god? Or does Tsukasa? Did the same sacrifice thing happen? Did Amane have the sickness like canon or? When Yashiro becomes Tsukasa’s assistant, whose memories does she see? Cause I imagine Tsukasa isn’t the one with like, the moon rock with tsuchi?? I’m curious cause I had an idea like this too :D
1. Does Amane have the pit God? Or does Tsukasa? Did the same sacrifice thing happen?
Yes! Amane has the pit God now instead of Tsukasa. The same sacrifice happened, but this time with Amane (but this time around it fully took over/replaced the real Amane, there is not much left of his original self). However, the stuff in the storyline that leads up to that loops into the next question:
2. Did Amane have the same sickness as in canon?
Nope! This swap au is entirely caused by a butterfly effect. Something changed in the past, which ended up making fates literally swap for characters, albeit happening in different ways sometimes, or for different reasons. That being said, the reason Tsukasa got sick in this au was because the pit god tried to possess him, which made him Throw Up The God (he has emetophobia bc of this), and in the process, fucked him up so badly that he became terminally ill. (This idea is sounding very silly now that I'm typing it out and saying it to anyone other than my friends but TRUST ME I'M A GENIUS MY FRIENDS ALL THINK I'M REALLY COOL 💔💔💔)
3. When Yashiro becomes Tsukasa's assistant, whose memories does she see? [...]
Okay so!! As mentioned earlier, this au is the cause of a butterfly effect, meaning that more people are swapped than just the twins. The swaps are:
Amane <--> Tsukasa
Nene <--> Sakura
Aoi <--> Natsuhiko
Mitsuba <--> Kou
Akane <--> Teru
Tsuchigomori-sensei <--> Nagisa-sensei
Sumire <--> Shinigami/Hakubo
Yokoo <--> Satou
Kako <--> Mirai
Yako <--> Shijima (Supernatural)
Misaki <--> Mei (Human)
Kodama/The Confession Tree <--> Chapel and Altar (a friend's OCs)
Fuji-kun <--> Nakahara-senpai
So Sakura is the one that becomes Tsukasa's assistant! And when she breaks Nagisa's Yorishiro, she sees his memories of Tsukasa, in the same classroom & setting as the original Tsuchigomori memories ^_^
3.5: [...] Because I imagine Tsukasa isn't the one with, like, the moon rock with Tsuchi??
Tsukasa is the one with the moon rock! I can go more into detail about why if you'd like, but to put it simply, Tsukasa started learning about space to try and help Amane gain his interest of it back (since he stopped being interested in it after the possession), and in the process, got himself obsessed with space.
Feel free to let me know if you've got any more questions! :]
Watch the Well God will be the first to not consider Nene's legs/Nene's legs weird and Nene will immediately soften up on them
hourly reminder that tsukasa’s technically a kannagi…?!?!!
ngl the pit god may not have cared about gender or age (look at how katakuri went), though it really couldn’t be selective of its sacrifice when it’s in a (red) house with people of no specified gender. which means that sumire and all those other akane girls never needed to suffer like that... fuck their village honestly 🫠
