A/N: Sorry this chapter is so late lol. Discovered my entire room has been infested with mold—like my window was cracked and the wood around it was rotten and the WHOLE WALL BELOW IT was moldy… it even got into my bedframe (not my mattress luckily) and into all the stuffed animals and shoes under my bed… when i say that shit was everywhere i mean that shit was EVERYWHERE. Call me jk rowling with the mold infested walls (except the mold never made me transphobic… interesting…)

Annoyed, and impatient, Mack turns to face both of them with a fierce expression. “What?” He snaps. To which he doesn’t get an answer, as the pair just exchange concerned and hesitant glances at one another. An act which prompts Mack to bark again, “What?” Toff shifts from foot-to-foot. He’s clearly stalling—and it’s driving Mack crazy.  “We think it would be best if you didn’t play tonight, Macklin,” he finally answers, quick and decisive.

It’s a reasonable question, that Mack does have the answer too, he just doesn’t know how to say it. For he feels like Oppenheimer with his hand on the big red button, about to drop the bomb on Hiroshima. The piece of knowledge a mushroom cloud that will smother a whole hockey team's worth of hope in one, singular sentence.  They deserve to know, though. Mack knows.
