OKAY. Since I already talked about Rhinestone I could probably talk about band au here instead BUT I have a diff ask that would suit it more and I'm feeling slightly more sane and able to word things this morning so. Going to talk a little more about RS without actually talking about it.

the setting is probably the most exciting thing for me for a few reasons. one is it being sci-fi-ish, which is something i've never really written before! outside of a few chapters it's all set on the hermitheus right now and as far as i'm aware there's not really much of a "canon" look for it outside of the storage areas and initial tube/pod room we see so i'm taking some time to figure all of that out. number one goal is for it to be unnerving- i don't want it to be constantly tense, but there is always going to be that reminder of it feeling very alien and clinical in a way that (especially for etho) becomes quite unsettling.

it can be a tricky one because the initial idea behind was that i.. did not like.. season 8s ending -_-" which is something that would take a whole different post to explain. so it's sort of at the halfway point between "canon compliant to a point" and "canon is putty in my hands"- for one, the hermits don't get put back into sleep mode after the simulation ends (again. also sort of etho's fault, probably) but it's also dubious how much of ren's gigaverse lore is canon.. i'll hold up my hands and say it didn't mesh with the lore i myself had made in season 7 which i'm a little too attached to get rid of now. having said that it's not like i plan on going in and throwing all my own world building at the wall because that's just overwhelming and confusing for those who ARE acquainted with the gigaverse. more like.. it's not something that ever gets addressed. the only thing that's evident which i don't think is canon is that none of them have any memory of being in sleep pods like this before. maybe they have and they just forgot! who knows. the outer world and implications of all this and where they're actually going is sort of treated as a side thing, because none of the characters really know either, and there are bigger things going on in the Right Now, yknow?

first off, i’m incredibly glad i reached out to you to coldread beta my fic because you were such a benefit to my productivity and one of the main reasons (besides the pressure of teamwork n a deadline) that i got fairhaven done. your comments and encouragement meant and still mean so much to me, and i swear to god i’ll finish tidying up ch 5 in the next few days!!

and speaking of fic, it’s a privilege and an honor to have access to the google doc for your regency fic. it has been SO COOL and great to watch it develop and grow and im SO EXCITED FOR IT!!!!!!!! and of course all your other little ficlets. it is a joy. you said something a month ago about seeing me type in a doc being like, coming back home to see me cooking or working on stuff and doing my own little thing? and what a warm thing to say. bless.

but anyway, you have a very thoughtful viewpoint on things (i’m not even speaking specifically about your entirely correct and A M A Z I N G meta, as talking w you about it has opened my mind to all the amazing and horrible intricacies of clamp) and i feel that i’ve learned a lot from you - literature, writing, meta, clamp, etc. you’re a third of an older sibling to me, but definitely more in the lines of just being a good friend who is older and wiser. a very good friend with a really good head on your shoulders and a great snapchat relationship.

anyway, this summer has been sort of a blossoming for my online social life, and you’re like the center bouquet/rose bush of that? thanks so much for chatting with me at odd times (god bless your night shifts - it’s somewhat bizarre to have a friend not on the west coast who is awake at the same late hours) and putting up with my all caps screaming about yama/parallels/taz/fob/everything. also you just told me you’re sending me a present??? which is EVERYTHING to me??????? bless you. i love mail. i’ll send you a postcard from bham (the real life fairhaven whose witchy counterpart you assisted me lovingly craft) one of these days.

tl;dr you’re like the best and you’ve assisted me a lot in things and i’m so so so so SO glad we’ve become such good friends. i have many more good things to say about you but i really appreciate you and enjoy talking with you. you’re a real peach!
