Now when you say "if the revenge showed up in blacksails they would all die" do you mean all the crew of the revenge would die or all the Black Sails characters would die
all of the ofmd characters would die. like the Revenge would actually have to face real canon fire for the first time ever and she would sink so fucking quickly. like, idk if anyone on the Revenge even knows how to fire a canon. and stede got rid of some of their gunpowder anyway, so they're probably gonna run out pretty quick lol!!
their only chance is if ed is 100% ready to throw on a fuckery the second they get there but even with his genius masterminding the whole thing, the crew of the Revenge would struggle to pull that off
however if ed showed up with his old crew on the QAR i think they'd be fine. like some of the background leather daddies would die but it would just be business as usual for ed. izzy would probably die in battle at some point and also ed may or may not become so depressed he ends up dead anyway but physically ed would be able to survive the black sails universe with his Tom of Finland crew
This isn't even about Black Sails specifically, but no way you equated having a realistic depiction of unsavory topics to torture porn and violence for shock value. </3 There's a reason people follow the method of "show don't tell" for audio-visual media, it's what makes it special and so many aspects like pacing and story depend on it. I'm not saying you have to like it or even be able to watch it (it's normal and good to have your limits), but 'just talk about it and never depict' is bad for television as a whole. There's nuance that your tags are clearly missing.
like ur right but itās literally my rambling tags on a tumblr post. no shit thereās nuance missing, i was essentially talking out loud. ātv shows should never show realistic depictions of violenceā is not my stance, my stance is āblack sails is not More Based than ofmd for showing on-screen acts of colonial violence,ā which seemed to be what a lot of what people were arguing on that poll. there was a lot of āblack sails has strong themes about anticolonialism and toxic masculinity!ā which like, yeah, ofmd does too?? itās just more subtle about it bc the show isnāt ABOUT those things, itās literally a romcom.
bs and ofmd are both, from what i can tell, well-written shows with a lot thatās worth criticizing about them. i know this is an ofmd blog, but i criticize this show too! itās got itās flaws! the conversation about āwhereās the line between Realistic Depictions of Unsavory Topics and Shock Value Torture Pornā is messy bc the line btwn the two is really blurry. but depending on who you ask, ofmd sometimes veers too far into āhandwaving difficult topics for the sake of a feel-good fantasy,ā and black sails sometimes veers too far into āgratuitous depictions of violence against marginalized people.ā like, thereās a lot of nuance that should be taken into account in that convo, but the bs fans saying their show is objectively more woke or whatever are really not leaving room for nuance there
