Trump's weaponization on parade
Dean Obeidallah at The Dean's Report:
We’ve never seen a presidential administration weaponize government to the extent of Donald Trump--both by rewarding his supporters and punishing his “enemies.” And what we saw Monday sums it up perfectly. Trump had his DOJ arrest a Democratic member of Congress on BS charges of assaulting an ICE officer while he rewarded the family of MAGA terrorist Ashli Babbitt--who was killed while storming the Capitol on Jan. 6--with $5 million of your tax dollars. This should make your blood boil—because it makes mine! The arrest of New Jersey Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver is as House Democratic leaders led by Hakeem Jeffries wrote in a statement, “extreme, morally bankrupt and lacks any basis in law or fact.” The charge arises from the May 9th visit by herself and two other New Jersey members of Congress to an ICE facility in Newark. A scuffle broke out when the ICE agents suddenly arrested Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing. Videos show McIver being pushed by ICE agents and saying on video about one agent, “He just assaulted me.” There is also video of incidental contact between McIver and an armed ICE agent in tactical gear.
After the incident, Trump officials went on TV claiming that McIver “body slammed” an ICE agent and the video would back that up. It did not—that was a lie. Yet Trump’s US Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba gleefully claimed on Monday McIver had “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement” and charged her with a federal crime. This is not the first fabricated charge by the Trump regime versus a Democrat. On Monday, Habba dropped the trespassing charge against Mayor Baraka, claiming it was “for the sake of moving forward.” In reality, as the evidence showed, Baraka was arrested on public property outside the ICE facility. You can’t trespass on public property—especially when you’re the Mayor of the city! The arrest of McIver follows an alarming pattern from convicted felon Trump over his first four months of utilizing the power of the federal government to target his critics and perceived enemies. We’ve seen Trump’s rogue regime arrest a judge in Wisconsin and the Mayor of Newark, begin a criminal investigation into NY Attorney General Tish James plus threaten to prosecute the Mayor of Chicago and the governor of New Jersey. Trump and his minions have also opened formal investigations into media outlets critical of him, the Democratic fundraising platform Act Blue, law firms, universities, people who used to work in the Trump regime but refused to lie that the 2020 election was stolen and more. As Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ)--who was with Rep. McIver at the ICE facility --told me last week, she expected Trump to charge her or McIver. Not because either did anything wrong but because as she noted the Trump regime is “out of control” with their “weaponization of law enforcement.” She rightly warned, “no one is safe form this administration.”
Something’s not adding up here: The Trump DOJ goons ordered the bogus arrest of Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) while giving a $5M reward to the family of the late domestic terrorist Ashli Babbitt.

"New Jersey’s Democratic governor has a message for the LGBTQ+ community. He issued an executive order on Tuesday indicating that, unlike in some Republican-controlled states, New Jersey is open and welcoming to everybody regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. In addition, he says New Jersey is a “safe haven” for those seeking gender-affirming care.
Gov. Phil Murphy directed all state departments and agencies to implement protective measures to protect gender-affirming healthcare providers and recipients with his executive order 326.
As a result of this order, LGBTQ+ youth in New Jersey, including transgender and non-binary youth, will have equal access to quality health care services regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or whether they live in New Jersey.

Andy Kim officially began his term as U.S. senator for New Jersey on Monday as he was sworn in three weeks early.
Andy Kim was sworn in early as a US senator from New Jersey on Monday. 🎉
Technically, he's now serving out the last few few weeks of Bob Menendez's term. Menendez was indicted on federal corruption charges and resigned under pressure. He was originally replaced by Democrat George Helmy. Helmy then submitted his resignation so that Gov. Phil Murphy could appoint Andy Kim. The appointment permits Kim to tack on a few weeks of Senate seniority. He will begin serving his regular term in January.
Kim defeated Republican businessman Curtis Bashaw in the closely-watched race to replace convicted New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez. Murphy had appointed his former chief of staff George Helmy to fill the seat until the election. Kim, a three-term congressman, said he ran to restore integrity and trust in government after Menendez resigned amid the bribery scandal. "I think we've shown that we built an incredible coalition all across New Jersey, people fired up for the kind of new era of politics we want to bring in. We've been excited about this, we've been working hard, all corners in New Jersey and we saw the value of that today," Kim told CBS News New York after winning the election. During his campaign, Kim touted Democrats' accomplishments, such as lowering the cost of prescription drugs, while criticizing President-elect Donald Trump for eliminating the SALT deduction, which Trump has since reversed his position on.
Andy Kim becomes the first Korean-American US senator. He was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris.
Also sworn in as US senator was Democrat Adam Schiff.

We got a lot of time and we need to start preparing now. If we make it through Trump's presidency intact we need to elect a good democrat president (or if by some miracle the gop does a massive u turn then one of them that has good policies). There probably won't be official running announcements for a good while but let's get an idea of who is most likely to get in the race:
Ballotpedia: The Encyclopedia of American Politics
I would suggest reading up on all of these candidates and creating yourself a personal list of pros, cons, and achievements for each one. When intent to run does get announced, you'll be equipped to help support their campaigns.
Even before then, decide which one you would most like to see as president and try to support them in general. Widespread vocal support of a given candidate for president may increase the odds that they choose to run.
(I am getting started on both as we speak. I will reblog with my candidate preferences in order to encourage further discussion after I've done some reading. I am also going ahead and following the tags for each of these people's names as well as their social media accounts so that I get updates from them. I reccommend yall do the same.)
Also, now would be a good time to get involved with your local democratic party and learn how primaries work. Be prepared to show up and help us get a good ticket when the time comes.
