So there's this thing called an occlusion plane right? It's this invisible rectangle in put in hidden places, like solid unmovable objects, that stops your computer from rendering anything behind it. Can't see it anyway, so why render it right. Sound cool?

Yeah well vanilla New Vegas doesn't use them much lol.

You're likely rendering everything you're facing right now if you're in an exterior. As we speak. I'm serious. If you're outside, and it's near enough to load in? It's getting rendered. Even behind that building. Even those rocks. And trees. And that dead guy.

That is, unless you want to give your weary toaster laptop a break, and don't mind mods...

With Performance For The People in your load order, all your dreams will come true. Or at least it'll give you upwards of 15 FPS around busier areas like it has for me. I'd know, I made the thing in a 24 hour Diet Dr Pepper binge.

But hey, don't take my word for it. Try it. It's safe to install or remove anytime. You can find it anywhere that 9mm pistols are sold.

REMEMBERED RITUALS

The new world of Fallout is a world of individual people who continued on after the disaster, and people... are people! They make new traditions, new rituals, new holidays-- sometimes based off the old ones, and sometimes borrowing from multiple old holidays to bring a broken people together. This week, we encourage creators to explore the Traditions, Rituals, Festivals, and Holidays of the wasteland-- new interpretations of old favorites, or new holidays that have been built upon the remembered pieces of the past.

My pop used to take me fishing in places like this. Never caught anything that didn’t try to eat us first, but damn if it wasn’t fun.

Artists Comments: This is one of those dialogue lines that just… resonates with me; it was the first thing I thought of seeing this theme. One of those rare moments where Hancock actually finds/exhibits joy in his past.

The line, as I see it, is a great encompassing of the essence of water. Nature’s mirror–ever-changing, an unbiased and nonjudgmental reflection of all that makes you you, providing a serenity that’s indescribable (and, in the Wasteland, very difficult to come by).

This piece kind of just… took its own reins, so to speak, so I can’t even begin to explain how it came to be. It was definitely one of those where the heart took over the pen.

Artists Comments: Unsure if it necessarily fits the theme, but I'm grateful for any situation that successfully encourages me to create. Hopefully, a prewar scene is suitable. Heh.

As a horror junkie, my Sole went to Starlight Drive-In often with his roommate. My Husband the Mutant is one of Alan's favorites, and he got a ticket for just about every local screening in 2077. Hawthorne doesn't mind... but he usually pays more attention to the carhops than the screen.

An old duster; repaired and passed from parent to child. A carefully modded weapon, gifted between friends in hopes that they'll live to see each other again. The old pre-war chair restored to perfection so an elder has a place to sit while telling the little ones their stories; all of these items have become precious because they were cared for, altered, loved, repaired, carried, worn, wielded, and then passed on again. This theme is about celebrating the items of Fallout, and how they survive with the people that use them.

Artists Comments: “Everything’s got its place. Sometimes it just has to get there first. Applies to people, applies to this library book I still haven’t quite gotten around to returning. And Goodneighbor’s great for that kind of thing, you know: we can all find our belonging here, if we go looking for it.”

Daisy immediately came to mind for me, hearing this week’s theme. She’s arguably one of the most influential people residing in the ruins of Downtown Boston. She sees just about everyone in passing, and likely lays a hand on just about every piece of merchandise as it passes through by caravan. She’s counsel, merchant, parcel handler… Many things to many of people. She’s even known to pull a few strings or call in favors for you, if she likes you enough. It’s only natural for someone who cares so deeply for her community, no matter how down or out, would maintain her storefront in Goodneighbor.

Artists Comments: I love the theme! We don't get nearly enough fanart of all the incredible critters of the Fallout universe. I recently cleared Vault 88 with Skyler, of whom I did a portrait in a new style just yesterday so I thought I'd have a go at rendering a molerat the same way.
