Who’s this fuzzy potato? It’s the hairy-tailed mole (Parascalops breweri)! Found in parts of eastern North America, this burrowing mammal creates tunnels that can extend up to 78 ft (24 m) long. Though it typically weighs only 2.2 oz (62.8 g), this critter’s powerful forelimbs can generate force more than 30 times its body mass, allowing it to slide through the soil with ease. Its diet includes worms, insects, and snails.

Giant Root Rat Tachyoryctes macrocephalus

A rodent endemic to Ethiopia's Bale Mountains, also known as big-headed mole rat. While the other mole rats not only live but also feed underground, this species mostly forages above ground, by digging a new tunnel to a patch of herbage. It forages for about 20 minutes, until it has exhausted the supply of herbs about its tunnel, after which it blocks the tunnel it has built from the inside.

At long last, this piece is finished! I started it a few weeks ago, and I've been chipping away at it on and off for quite some time. The lineart was definitely the most frustrating part, but I quite enjoyed the rendering process at the end. This is my largest Bellburrow piece to date, and to be honest, I'm really happy with the end result!
