Just saw Karate Kid: Legends and I’m just gonna say it, it’s fight scenes were infinitely better than Cobra Kai’s. Cobra Kai overused slow motion in the fight scenes a lot and showed the same move from several different angles, it made it feel boring to me and not as fast paced as a fight should feel. Karate Kid Legends fights all felt quick and only used slow motion like once or twice, and they didn’t repeat it from a dozen different angles, so I was actually invested.
Also Li Fong is an amazing protagonist, he loves his family (especially his mom and brother), is kind, isn’t toxic and is just a good guy. There’s no toxic masculinity to him or any other characters in the movie. Even Connor Day, the freaking antagonist of the film, isn’t an overly cringy misogynistic villain, sure he’s a jerk and is possessive of his ex-girlfriend, but he’s not an evil villain. He leaves Mia alone and bows to Li at the end of the film to show his respect to him, it’s honestly just such a breath of fresh air of six season of whatever the hell cobra Kai was. All that to say, I highly recommend the movie, the cast is great, the story is great (although I would’ve liked the movie to be longer), the fights are great, it’s a film that really honors the karate kid movies and doesn’t disrespect them.
