The Gather-Ring by Manuel Báez and Charlynne Lafontaine, Ottawa

The Spourne Parclose at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Lavenham, UK.  I only recently learned the term ‘parclose’ but had the pleasure of seeing two really beautiful examples in this church.  How wonderful that this delicate wood carving has survived for 500 years.  Photos by Charles Reeza.

St Peter and St Paul's Church in Lavenham was built from the 1480s to the 1520s, bankrolled by the wealthy cloth merchant families of the town. It is one of the most important so-called Wool Churches in England and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Late Perpendicular Gothic architecture. The architect is thought to have been John Wastell who built the Church of St Mary The Great in Cambridge. Photos by Charles Reeza.

The largest monastic cloister in England is at Norwich Cathedral.  It was built between 1297 and 1430, with a significant pause in the work due to the arrival of the Black Death in 1349.  By the time the work resumed, tastes in ecclesiastical architecture had changed from the Curvilinear Decorated Gothic seen in the stone tracery on the left, to the Perpendicular style seen in the arch on the right. Peterborough Cathedral - The so-called “New Building” was constructed around the church’s apse between 1496 and 1508 in the Perpendicular Gothic style.  The fan vaulting was probably designed by John Wastell, the architect of King's College Chapel in Cambridge.  This space was being used for a posh reception when I was there, so I couldn’t go all the way around the apse.  The last photo shows the same area on the outside.  Photos by Charles Reeza.
