5 Pieces of Advice You Probably Already Know
We aren’t pretending to have found the next best thing in period care. We just want to gently remind you that there are ways to help yourself out during your period.
Water. Water. WATER!
I’m sure everyone you’ve ever spoken to about period or health issues has said: “Drink more water.” *cue dramatic eye roll* We get it. We still feel the need to drive this point home because so many of us still neglect to drink enough water. even though we know better.
Drinking water has been linked to relieving cramps, less fatigue, and less bloating! So why do we keep torturing ourselves?
If you hate the taste of water (I personally do) add fruits like lemons, strawberries, and blueberries to give it a little sweetness. Drink tea! Tea (some sources say) count for your water intake and a nice Tension Tamer tea can really do wonders for cramps.
We know, you know. We’re just sayin’.
CHANGE YOUR PADS/TAMPONS!!!
Some of you reading will probably be thinking “are they serious?” Yes we are. You should be changing your pad or tampon every 4 hours. Some of us, I’m guilty for sure, forget because we are running around trying to do a million other things.
I set an alarm on my phone just to avoid this. Leaving a tampon in too long can obviously cause TSS, but also can make cramps more intense. So just try hard to remember
Exercise
Exercise can help lighten your flow, improve your mood swings, make your cramps less painful, and help you sleep better. So whether your exercise of choice is a long walk, a yoga session, swimming, or an at-home circuit. Do it. Your uterus will thank you later.
NAPS!
Yesssss, finally one that we want to do while bleeding and cramping. If you have the luxury, take a nap and sleep off your cramps with a nice heating pad. You’ve earned it
Avoid Too Tight Clothing
Not saying that women shouldn’t wear tight clothes in general, and some of us wouldn’t dream of wearing something tight while cramping, just while bleeding. Too tight clothing can make any existing cramps or bloat infinitely worse. Do yourself a favor and go for the flowy jumpsuit instead of fitted blue jeans.
We just want everyone to have the best possible period. In order for that to happen we need to take care of ourselves, not saying drinking water will cure every period problem, but if we can improve it even slightly, why not try?
