48 - rampage, for our good ol' pal (fuck you) The Plague (... sorry I had to had the full exclamation that was too tempting but I would love to see something about The Plague from you :D)
I love that we have two entirely different interpretations of the words âfuck you the Plague,â but theyâre both extremely relevant to Pathologic2 lol. Yours is just yelling (fuck you) before addressing the Plague at all times, and mine is telling the Plague to go fuck itself while including an unnecessary article to mock it--(fuck you) The Plague vs Fuck you, âThe Plague.â
The thing about children is that to be forbidden is to be intriguing and to be extreme is to be something worth idolatry. Itâs not yet having life place blinders on oneâs face that make them aware of paltry human limits, of the fact that the universe is not infinite (effectively, of course, for what use is infinity to a finite life?), of not yet needing to fear things like death and politics--the same thing, really.
Or, at least, thatâs what the adults think. That the cruelty of a childâs mind is born of ignorance, and that there is a certain wild beauty in it.
They, the children, of course, know better. It is not that they arenât afraid. It is not that they do not know loss. It is that no one has ever taught them to deal with the rampage of death in their lives, the looming possibility that someday everything will be different and that they will be alone.
The Plague is not a capital-E Evil because it is fun. It unstoppable and violent and angry because they, too, are afraid, and sometimes the only solution is to put those fears in a box and drown them, hoping to be less afraid in the morning.
