Woman’s pain is underrated
Okay guys boy do I have a story for you. So ever since I started my period (age 12) I had really bad pains, like bad to the point I would miss many days of school during my cycle. As I got older I was told to suck it up, that I was making a big deal out of nothing, that it was normal etc...
So I’m 19, and it’s July 2018 and I wake up to this lump in my stomach. I text my mom and she’s like “you probably have to poop, it’s nothing but go to the hospital or whatever” and, me being scared that it really is nothing, I don’t go.
A month later I start experiencing sharp pain in my right side. I’m scared, it’s midnight, and I tell my boyfriend who says I should wake my mom up and go to the ER. I wake her up. She tells me I’m over reacting and I tell her to feel the weird lump in my stomach and she says nothings there.
Two days later my dad and boyfriend convince me to go to the ER, and my boyfriend drives me there. Blood work, CT Scan, and ultrasound later: I have a teratoma on my right ovary (a cyst/tumor) and should see an OBGYN asap.
I call like 3, and let me say the ER dr said this was an emergency, and one of them can’t see me till September 14. Are you kidding me?
So I go to the one who will take me first, and they tell me this thing is f*cking massive 14 x 16cm, like its the size of a fetus.
Eventually, (late August at this point) I get sent to an Oncologist because of how massive this thing is and within a week the Doc does my surgery (September 10, and they keep me over night)
It took nearly THREE HOURS to remove this thing (also called a dermoid) and with this thing they have no choice but to take my right ovary with it (like it was twisted and didn’t look right) they were also able to remove a small cyst on my left ovary.
While they were in there they diagnosed me with endometriosis, this is when the uterine lining grows outside of the uterus and can cause fertility issues. So now I have to see a fertility specialist to make sure I’m actually able to have children.
Endometriosis can also cause EXTREME period pain. But I was told it was normal. That I was making a big deal out of “nothing”
Anyways, ladies, ignore the thoughts of those around you and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. I’m 19 and I’ve always wanted kids, but now I may never be able to have my own.
