for @quidditchleaguenet‘s december challenge
lavender brown and parvati patil make fast friends because the first thing that lavender opens with when they’re on the train is “hey, do you want to see a picture of my bunny” and parvati, lover of all things cute and fluffy, says yes
eleven-year old lavender was very insecure at the beginning about parvati and padma, because she’d been the third wheel many a times before and how could you be anything but a third wheel with twins?
except parvati was her dormmate and very eager to spread her wings away from her twin and spent the first couple of months filling lavender in about all the pureblood gossip and wizarding families and their respective alliances
(for which she is thankful for, in hindsight, during the war)
and one day parvati had shot her a grin and said very shyly “I’m really glad we managed to become such good friends so early on”
and Lavender echoed that sentiment because Fay and Eloise had become fast friends as well, and Hermione was too much head-in-the-books for them to even get to know her
and Lavender chimes in, equally as shy, “you’re my best friend here”
Parvati beams at that, and starts chattering away about matching bracelets and future Hogsmeades trips and “all the things we can do in the next seven years!”
Lavender is thrilled, and later on she drops the ‘here’ and Parvati just becomes ‘best friend’, alongside ‘confidant’, ‘shoulder to cry on’, ‘transfiguration partner’ and ‘girl who tells me when I step out of line’
(and if later on they become a little more than that, Lavender’s not too worried - they’re best friends, through and through, and nothing can ever change that).
