The consequences of the shared European asylum and migration politics that the member countries have developed during the last decades are brutal. Since the mid-nineties, human rights organizations have documented 17,306 deaths that occurred en route to Europe or were caused by migration-political actions. The EU conducts mass deportations to life-threatening places, keeps hundreds of thousands of innocent people in detention centers, splits up families, creates rightlessness and forces people to inhumane waiting on decisions that may never be made. - Fort Europa, from the website
The past weekend I the anti-nationalistic cabaret Europa Europa, a free theater group's protest performance against the Swedish and European immigration and asylum politics. The show was engaging and the very well-filled and thoroughly sourced program added a much-needed depth to the slogans and songs.Â
We saw it on the open air performance in Stockholm, there will be a few more performances leading up to the Swedish parliamentary election, and I heartily recommend everyone who has the possibility to go. What you learn / are reminded of regarding the closed borders and crimes against the international human rights declaration (which Sweden and multiple other EU countries have signed into law even) is highly unsettling.Â
